Just goes to show that Wesley Peck the pigeon really does exist.

For me, the most interesting thing in all this is the opportunity to chat with a pigeon named Wesley Peck. I’ll get my coat.

Westbury to Plymouth in a Turbo??? Ouch.
Not ideal no. But fair play to GWR (Great Western Railway) for able to provide something for travellers from Westbury onwards.

Being a Turbo, there will of course be first class accommodation; just declassified.

Travelling into Kent from Bath in the early nineties, I seem to recall that BR (British Rail(ways)) imposed an evening peak restriction for tickets leaving Bath Spa, which led to an immediate modal switch from rail to road for that journey.

It can't just have been me as that particular evening peak restriction quickly evaporated, thankfully and it was back to the train - including a particularly timely service that came up from further west, left Bath at 16:10, stopped at Reading only, and, I also think I recall, took 1 hour ten minutes up to Paddington.

Something I definitely recall was around 1990, stepping aboard a morning HST (High Speed Train) at Paddington on the return half of an off-peak ticket and finding that for a (reasonable) additional charge, an at-seat full english breakfast was available to standard class passengers.

After sitting down at an unoccupied table-for-four bay, a couple sat down in the other pair of seats, they were from Essex and were making the trip at short notice and were ticketless. They bought full price return travel tickets from the train manager, not batting an eyelid at the cost of those which was considerably more than the cost of my off-peak. After which, away we all went to the West, in the company of each other, tea, and a well presented fry-up.

Sounds like the West Country Pullman which ran from May 1988 until the early 90s between London and Paignton leaving I think around mid morning with the first stop Bath. The return, to begin with, used to run non stop Bath to London around 4pm.

As time went by, more and more stops were added, the Pullman name, along with the restaurant, dropped and it became just another regular service.

Today, the morning London to Paignton and return runs via Berks & Hants and, until recently ran under the The Torbay Express name.

Without wishing to derail the thread, anyone know why GWR (Great Western Railway) decided to drop naming certain train services?

Add St Pancras to Amsterdam Central, but it will be suspended for a while after June for the reconstruction of Amsterdam Central
This has been updated that after June the service will now run direct London to Amsterdam but Amsterdam to London you will need to change at Brussels to go through passport control.

Looking like another poor day of service for Castle Cary, Westbury, Pewsey and the rest of the Kennet Valley to London when you couple this with the issue of the points failure between Reading and Newbury.

Lets hope it's resolved soon. Too late for those early morning commuters to Reading and London of course.

Not sure what train fault would force such a diversion?
I’m curious as to why as well.

Only thought I had was one or more engines were down so to get the train to the wires as soon as possible. But not a lot to be gained by routing via Chippenham rather than getting to the juice at Newbury.

Looking at the response on social media to LNER» (London North Eastern Railway - about)’s fare ‘simplification’ it has gone down very badly.

I’m expecting a screeching u turn on this one.

The 1635 Paddington to Plymouth was only five vice ten, only went as far as Exeter, was absolutely rammed leaving Paddington and was not listed on Journeycheck as being shorformed. I know II has mentioned before you can’t rely on JC to give the complete picture.

I had elderly relatives on this train. Fortunately they just managed to get a seat, though not together and certainly not the ones that I had been booked for them.

The reason given was the usual ‘more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.’

It was reported in the national media, only a couple of days back, that there had been a huge decline in the interest in model railways over the past few years....................no connection ??
Wouldn’t surprise me. Always been an expensive hobby but have you seen the prices of the models these days?!?!?

Cancellations to services between West Ruislip and Gerrards Cross

Due to a fault with the signalling system between West Ruislip and Gerrards Cross trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines.

Impact
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Customer Advice
Following a fault with the signalling system between West Ruislip and Gerrards Cross, both lines have re-opened. However, delays are to be expected due to services running at a reduced speed. Alterations to services are also to be expected.

DO NOT TRAVEL: repairs to the railway in the Bicester area on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 January

Chiltern Railways is advising customers not to travel on its services on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 January.

Due to recent heavy rainfall, a landslip occurred on Thursday 11 January on the Chiltern main line between Bicester North and Haddenham & Thame Parkway.

The line has been partially blocked, meaning that fewer services have been able to run on the one track available since the disruption began.

For Network Rail to undertake urgent repairs to the railway, the line between Bicester North and Haddenham & Thame Parkway will be fully closed on Sunday 14 January and Monday 15 January. This means that no trains will be able run through the area.

Trains will start/terminate at either Bicester North or Haddenham & Thame Parkway depending on direction of travel, with a limited replacement bus service in between these stations for local journeys. Due to this significant disruption, Chiltern is asking customers to not to travel on these days and seek alternative methods of transport.
