I hadn't realised it was so recent. So, there we have it - 30mph unless on a steep uphill gradient.
As said before, the longest stretch this will be needed for is just out of Swindon to Bristol Parkway, then to the depot a mile away. The train controller may need to consult other bits of software before raising the speed, whether its power comes off 25 kV or from the on-board generator. For example a temperature reading may tell it that something can't run at higher power. The generator controllers will report whether they can provide more power, which will depend on the auxiliary load among other things, and that is the issue here. If more power is available, why would the train controller apply a lower speed of 100 mi/hr if it can go faster?
Aye, ye cannae beat the laws o' physics!

I used the replacement buses yesterday and this morning - the buses ARE nice. "Leather" seats which give off that new leathery furniture smell - crikey!
The same buses are used on the number 1 and 2 routes in Bristol, where they quickly lost that "showroom" smell. I use them quite a lot - the 1 route gives me a 5-minute ^1 alternative to a 30-minute walk to Temple Meads. They are nice, although I haven't got used to the engine stopping at rest, even though my car does the same. The wifi works, but is a bit wobbly, and the passenger information system is reasonably accurate and helpful. Potentially embarrassingly for MetroBust they exceed the minimum requirement for the proposed new ^265 million white elephant, with the exception of the second door. What was touted as a great step forward will be last year's model by the time it starts running.

I bought my first one in January, and quickly transferred my previously knowledge from film days to the new technology. Now for the rest, which is taking time, although it is fun. The shop I bought the camera from offered me a course at a fee. I declined, because without the need to buy film or pay for processing, I can take 500 pictures of my wheelie bin until I get it right.

That was my first thought on seeing the name! Personally, I no longer use it. The camera was on auto but I've just checked and it was equiv to ASA500 (It's ages since I have even had to worry about ISO settings!)
f3.3 1/80th sec
I was leaning against the footbridge side to get some bracing.
By accident or by design, it's a very nice photo, and shows the power of the modern digital camera. The big aperture gives a sharpness to the locomotive, with the focus softening towards the rear of the train. It also demonstrates the ability of the photographer to frame the picture nicely and make the best of the fleeting moment he is presented with!

I buy through GWR▸ 's site, no matter which operator I am travelling with, and thus get Nectar points. These alone are not to be sniffed at, as my wife has just demonstrated during a "doubling up" period in the shops, coming home with all manner of decent swag paid for largely in accrued points.
I then pay for my ticket with my Santander 123 credit card, which gives me 3% cash back on, for example, my first class ticket from Bristol Temple Meads to Crediton (£6.60 with my newly-acquired Senior Railcard). Other cash-back credit cards are available (I have three others for where Santander isn't the best deal), and probably a cash-bach for west of the Severn Tunnel.
I love a bargain!

Latest on the injuries:
3 heavily injured 5 walking wounded 10 minor injuries
Driver is one of the walking wounded.
The injuries will likely be more serious as people would have been standing, getting ready to disembark. Hopefully, all are now on the way to full recovery. I suspect you might have fallen foul of the forum's broken "Show unread posts since last visit" function.
I thought it had been removed, rather than broken. If it still works, tell me where I find it!
