2  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Mid-Cornwall Rail Study on: November 01, 2011, 10:21:43
Part of the study actually looks at the whole of the main line from Plymouth to Penzance. This is probably the most cost effective bit of the whole thing and would bring improvements to far more people and make cross Cornwall travel easier too.
3  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Stopping at Stations in Cornwall on: November 01, 2011, 09:53:28
Lostwithiel are also served by Cross Country trains, Saltash and St Germans are not. You'll find they are pretty well served.

I know we have demand for the down Sleeper to call at Saltash both for long distance travellers and those wanting to get to the west of Cornwall earlier in the day.
4  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Saltash Station and Saltash Rail Users Group (merged topics) on: November 01, 2011, 09:48:47
Anyone want to run a cafe in part of the building?
5  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Summat always goes wrong... on: March 18, 2010, 12:59:21
The Saltash call on the 1406 is non negitiable from our point of view and is very busy with both those alighting and those wishing to travel beyond Liskeard. Would only save a couple of minutes anyway, and its not like we need to encourage more users by reducing overall journey time, the train is very busy.

Moving the 1706 earlier to say 1700 would reduce the gap back to the 1557 PLY» (Plymouth - next trains) - PNZ which is already rammed on most days, which might help encourage a few more to travel on a later 1700 servcie. In an ideal world there should probably be another Plymouth departure at around 1630 to Penzance.

It is also better that the 1706/1700 maintains a good connection from the CrossCountry service that arrives Plymouth at 1650 otherwise there will be even more people trying to get on the 1406.

The 1706 PLY» (Plymouth - next trains) - LSK is a very useful train for those that use it.

I hope that from December it can run a few minutes earlier, as it comes from Newton Abbot now and has a long wait at Plymouth. This would also help prevent it holding up the 1406 ex PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains).
7  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Why the ongoing 20mph speed restriction at St Budeaux,Plymouth on: March 09, 2010, 09:43:36
You certainly don't want the unbridged version.
8  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Why the ongoing 20mph speed restriction at St Budeaux,Plymouth on: March 08, 2010, 09:08:12
I suspect it is due to preparations for the overhaul of the Royal Albert Bridge later this year. There is quite an area that has been cleared between St Budeaux Ferry Road and the bridge itself, and I suspect this is where much of any equipment/materials that will be used will be stored.

I'll see if I can find out anything concrete.

Vacman. I understand about the probable abuse of separate tickets and agree.

What about if the "spare' ticket was still in the possesion of the remaining group? That would mean that if there was another person they would have to buy another ticket.

10  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Atlantic Coastline Express on: February 02, 2010, 14:22:12
Thats what I thought, so not much change from lasy year. Just whether Reading is in or out. My guess is that there are no changes.
11  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Atlantic Coastline Express on: February 02, 2010, 12:22:57
Anyone got lasy summers timetable. Where did it stop? Is the ACE every Paddington - Newquay and Newquay - Paddington  service, or just the Saturday ones?
12  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: The future of Hayle station on: November 20, 2009, 09:17:44
No real figures. I do know there are some, because I have met quite a few on the station.

Back to the Hayle thread, do any FGW (First Great Western) staff have a feel if there are many that do travel on the St Ives branch with Hayle - St Ives tickets because they are cheaper? Or is it just myth..
13  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: The future of Hayle station on: November 19, 2009, 18:43:32
6th. I count Truro as a City!

We also potentially serve much of the Western and Northern part of Plymouth, especially for westbound travel, but we have some that come here for easy access to HST (High Speed Train) services to London.

14  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: The future of Hayle station on: November 19, 2009, 12:24:09
Not sure we are classified as 'main' yet, but we want to be. The population of the town and surrounding area has the potential to provide significant passenger growth.

You are right we do gain an extra service in December. The 1755 from Plymouth will call which strengthens the commuter offer. You will note the minimal impact a Saltash stop has on the timetable. I think its a minute later at Liskeard, but even thats gets absorbed by Truro or Redruth.

My main drive at the moment is to get even more on the service we have, and get Network Rail to do something about the up platform gap.
15  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: The future of Hayle station on: November 15, 2009, 23:14:53
That is my point. Drive to Saltings, but buy a Hayle to St Ives return.

Save money, and still have a legal ticket.
