2  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: New alighting procedure at Saltash on: September 22, 2012, 21:26:57
Saltash WAS front four coachs, this could only be done if the signal was clear, if it was at danger the procedure WAS for the train to stop short of the platform and only move into the station once signal clear with the front four on. However this has been deemed to be causing more delay than neccesary, so the procedure is now leading carriage only so the train can enter platform if the signal is at danger or clear. The TM(resolve) can't change it from one coach to four on arrival if the signal is clear, so the standard has been set for front coach only. Pain for bikes/wheelchairs.

St Ives still four car today. FGW (First Great Western) now acknowledging the existence of Bangface festival, so hopefully will strengthen on Sunday and Monday as well.

Was strengthened today and 2N02 Bristol to Newquay will be strengthened at Par tomorrow. Also standby buses at Newquay.
4  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Newquay Line Services on: September 14, 2012, 21:54:49
Newquay has now been strengthened for tomorrow and a standby coach will be provided at Par. And I've never heard of Newquay Fish Festival before either.

Newquay is strengthened tomorrow (Saturday) due to the fish festival according to FGW (First Great Western), which should attract an additional 7 passengers??? The main problem is the hundreds of drunken louts arriving for the 'Bangface Festival' (google it), for drunks and druggies, so Sunday and Monday returning will also be mayhem if not strengthened....

Is St.Ives seriously still four cars???

Perranwell to get past the gateline and the most execellant gateline staff. I love Truro gateline staff they are fab.

How is it the gateline staffs fault? They have a valid ticket from that station, so surely the gateline staff would not be involve at all, because the gate would open automatically! If a conductor is checking tickets and allowing a student to do that rather than telling them to get off at Penryn, they are just as much at fault as the gateline staff!

Where exactly did I say it was any fault of the gateline?? I said they are excellant, which indeed they are....

I will say that I have caught the Newquay - Padd service a couple of times this year because it does offer one of the best services as it only stops at Par, Plymouth, Exeter & Reading. It's not a lot quicker on the actual timings but does feel that it is because of the lack of stops. (& Newquay is my nearest station!)

Agreed, while full and standing ones from Penzance stop nearly everywhere......... I dare say when you travelled from Newquay the train was reasonably quiet???
7  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Newquay Line Services on: September 09, 2012, 16:25:48
I reckon around 50 minute journey times are possible, which would allow around 20 minute turnaround times. Is the loop at St Blazey long enough to allow two HSTs (High Speed Train) to pass there. If it was you time the trains to pass there, which would allow a little extra turnaround time at Newquay compared to passing the other side of Par,

HSTs can pass at St.Blazey, so you could run a two hourly service with a 30 minute turn around at Newquay. I personally think its time to reduce the number of through Saturday trains as they have been getting quieter over the last few years almost to the stage of being pointless.... It would be better to have just a couple through trains with the service bolstered by units providing much better local oppurtunities, which on summer Saturday have been poor for many many years....

P.S. If you got on the 18:12 from Ferry Road to Victoria Road, you should probably be sold a return to Keyham - 1.30 - which is valid for the doubling back via Plymouth.  That would be a very good (and very unfair) test ticket purchase request for the organisations that go round checking if the rail companies are offering the lowest fares as they should be doing.

Hell, you'd be sold a return to Keyham and made to get off there to catch the service coming back again!! Its like all these students who get on at Truro with a single to Perranwell on a train that doesnt stop there then state they'll stay on until Falmouth and get off at Perranwell on the way back. Funnily enough they go missing at Falmouth having paid to Perranwell to get past the gateline and the most execellant gateline staff. I love Truro gateline staff they are fab.
9  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Newquay Line Services on: September 05, 2012, 00:43:23
How many people would use this 21:26 Newquay to Penzance??? errrrr?? Hardly any. The best move to make this service more worthwhile would be to make it sit at Newquay to leave LATER thus shortening the current 40+ minute wait until the up sleeper. I hear rumours that Goonbarrow Signalbox may close at Christmas, with no provision of a passing loop at Goonbarrow next year?? Possibily related to NR» (Network Rail - home page) uping the speeds on the branch this year......

St Budeaux Victoria Road to St Budeaux Ferry Road.  Or vice versa.

Yes, or in fact any Cornish station to/from Victoria Road....

off on a tangent, but where on FGW (First Great Western) can you board a train, get off the same train a few stops later and there is no valid ticket for the journey???
12  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Truro Station refurbishment and installation of ticket barriers (merged topics) on: June 18, 2012, 00:50:54
Footbridge isn't far off completion - New treads going down. Won't be long before the East end is closed.

Thanks Vacmanfan, you are great!!!
13  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Class 158s to Newquay on: June 18, 2012, 00:49:20
All unrefurbished 158s where like that inside. I remember one weekend during an engineering block the Falmouth unit failed and a ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) 158 which should of just stabled on Long rock all weekend was used, but FGW (First Great Western) tried to do it without telling ATW but they got busted!!
14  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Class 158s to Newquay on: June 15, 2012, 01:46:28
Curiousity creeping in here. Roche is the only platform on the branch that sits partly on the inside of a curve, so presumably the issue is the 158 coaches scraping the platform. Yet a 153 is slightly longer (According to Angel trains data sheets) and a Mk3 is the same length.
So is it the bogies are further apart that cause the issue??

I honestly don't know, could be, as the reason they are banned from Gunnislake is Calstock Platform, which is the same situation. Funny how a Voyager can fit through Roche platform though, and there was never a trial, one just went on through in passenger service!
15  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Class 158s to Newquay on: June 13, 2012, 23:06:19
158s are not cleared to pass through the platform at Roche, so no, they havn't been to Newquay. Closest they have been is St.Blazey Yard.....
