Our own S&T (Signalling and Telegraph) Engineer must have clocked up a few years as well?

I'm only a youngster in comparison.  Fifty-one years for me this coming August Cheesy

I worked with Rod Price when I was Tester-in-Charge of the signalling for the new Eurostar depot at North Pole International in 1992 (now the Hitachi IET (Intercity Express Train) depot).

With all that petrol, paraffin, lavatory paper and candle wax in the Broadguage household, I hope there is also a fire extinguisher and smoke detector or two to keep them all safe!

Well its all finished now.  Judgement paper here (but Health Warning; its 193 pages long, so use as some bedtime reading if you wish).  The actual outcome is in the very last Paragraph No.601!  Enjoy (not): https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Judgment-V4-Redacted.pdf

When STUVING has absorbed it all, perhaps he might like to summarise it for us Wink

23  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Facemasks. Change to attitudes (passengers and staff) on public transport? on: June 15, 2020, 14:10:40
This is turning into another (English) government fiasco.  I catch a through train from Taunton to Cardiff with various other passengers making the same trip with me (socially distanced of course).  Put my mask on.  Once through the Severn Tunnel the English law no longer applies and I can take the mask off.  I'm still with the same passengers, so how has wearing a mask lowered the risk?  I can understand it on a packed commuter train where you are likely to be standing (literally) 'face to face' but.......

25  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: Misuse of level crossings - highlighting but not limited to Marlow branch on: June 12, 2020, 14:33:30
Mind you with lots of vegetation/weeds growing in the track around the foot crossing, broken notices and a general (and increasingly typical) uncared for impression, a person not familiar with the local area and railways could be forgiven for thinking the line was not in use.

Except that the rails are very shiny.

And why are the faces of these idiots blanked out?

I think you have missed the point AMLAG was making.  That was, censoring people for missusing a level crossing when you yourself don't ensure the asset you are responsible for is looked after correctly as well.

There was an interesting item published in Railengineer in 2018 giving some reasons for the failures behind the GWML (Great Western Main Line) Electrification (and in the UK (United Kingdom) generally): https://www.railengineer.co.uk/2018/06/04/getting-electrification-right/

Any details available on timetable improvements in Cornwall?

28  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Service improvements from 6 July on: June 12, 2020, 14:00:45
I had an e-mail yesterday from GWR (Great Western Railway) outlining further service improvements from 6 July.

They include:

Half-hourly service on the St Ives branch line restored 7 days a week
Half-hourly service restored on Exmouth-Paignton services Monday-Saturday
Normal service level restored on Falmouth branch Monday-Saturday
Majority of services restored on Cornish mainline between Plymouth-Penzance Monday-Saturday, getting us closer to two trains per hour throughout the day.  This has helped to fill the early evening gaps on that were raised for Saltash and St Germans. We have also been able to make some additional calls on Sunday services, but these remain broadly hourly

Interesting, Richard.  If you put Plymouth to Penzance on Monday 22 June (but not before) into the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner search you get the half-hourly train times as per the pre-COVID timetable.
29  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: June 12, 2020, 13:45:03

It is a commendable step in a vast country, and shows what can be done with a bit of thought and money. Electrical standards in India have improved markedly since I was there last year.

You obviously didn't look at the PDF linked to at the bottom of the article Tongue
