Shame on GWR▸ . Obviously didn't proof read the Barnstaple table in Timetable W1 It only took me 10 minutes of speed reading to spot that I take it you are referring to 00.05 Exmouth to Portsmouth Arms on P75? Worth posting any issues you spot here as someone at or linked with GWR can report them to add to a list of corrections that gets published on the website just before the timetable starts. Not just that 0005. Look at the journey times from Exmouth to Exeter Central on services onward to Barnstaple on that p75 as well as the following two pages. Has someone fitted rockets to the 143s and 150s? 8 minutes to do 10.5 miles. That's a average speed of 79mph. Impressive for rolling stock limited to 75mph on a line with (mostly) a 50mph limit. These train also call on request only at Exeter Central, going on to Crediton without bothering to call at Exeter St Davids! Except two Mon-Sat services, the first rocket propelled service of the day from Exmouth and another in the evening, that do call Exeter St Davids, but only on request. On Sundays the Exmouth to Barnstaple services are mostly given a far more leisurely 9 or 10 minutes between Exmouth and Exeter Central. But again, if you want to board at the Exeter stations you better stick your hand out, according to the timetable. Thanks BNM. That was exactly my point. If GWR can't get something as basic as its 'shop window' right then I don't hold out much hope for how it runs the rest of its business Sudden thought; Perhaps I could offer my proof reading skills to GWR

Oh well, it is the begining of the end: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34851718The UK▸ 's remaining coal-fired power stations will be shut by 2025 with their use restricted by 2023, Energy Secretary Amber Rudd has announced.
Ms Rudd wants more gas-fired stations to be built since relying on "polluting" coal is "perverse". "We need to give a clear signal to people who are in the market for building gas stations that coal will no longer crowd out new gas."
Environmentalists are concerned little is being done to promote renewables.
'Energy crisis' Currently, coal provides almost a third (28%) of the UK's electricity, but Ms Rudd said "We are tackling a legacy of underinvestment and ageing power stations which we need to replace with alternatives that are reliable, good value for money and help to reduce emissions."
Ms Rudd also said investment in nuclear power is vital to the government's policy. She believes that plans for new nuclear power stations, including at Wylfa in Wales and Moorside in Cumbria, could provide almost a third of the low carbon electricity the UK needs for the next 15 years.
The speech comes amid concerns that the UK could suffer from blackouts as a result of short supplies, brought about in large part from the closure of a number of power stations that have come to the end of their working lives.
Tony Lodge, who has published a report from the Centre for Policy Studies, said Britain is on the verge of an "energy crisis" with electricity demand set to outstrip available supply in the near future. "We have called for an independent person separate from government to give a lead on security of supply. If we don't have that we could be in real trouble in 18 months."
However, National Grid and many experts have dismissed these concerns. That last line really worries me. Reminds me too much of the statements that Network Rail kept making that it could deliver the world if asked, and look where that has got us.......

There are rules and then there are rules. A project I'm currently engaged in is carrying out GRIP4, 5 and 6 all in one go I have seen too many projects go hugely over-budget because of late design changes during construction even just combining the equivalent of stages 5 & 6, combining 4, 5 & 6 looks like madness unless the design really is so obvious. ...mmmm. Thats why I put those cheeky little face pictures at the end of my post The project is becoming a disaster zone as we are still trying to close out the scope whilst the buildings around it, and being provided in part for it, are going up. Whatever happened to CDM▸ 2015 let alone the GRIP▸ process??? Anyway, none of this is helping answer Grahame's original question.......
