3346  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Network Rail asks Truro ^Would it kill you to wait?' on: June 10, 2010, 21:36:24
Gwinear Road Crossing has a 15mph restriction on it now, after some near misses with Polish farm workers...

I think this is only temporary as there was failure in the phone exchange in Truro station signal box meaning most of the lineside phones weren't working today.

There is no telephone exchange in Truro SB (Signal Box).  The exchange is on the station.  Gwinear Road AHBC (Automatic Half Barrier Crossing) level crossing is supervised by Roskear Junction SB and all telephones are direct lines to there.  I can assure you that if all of the telephones at Gwinear Road had failed then all trains would have been cautioned (for a very long time).

3348  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Okehampton-Tavistock. Discussion on reopening and potential use as a diversionary route on: May 31, 2010, 20:44:43
It was running yesterday.

Having said that, there was nothing on CIS (Customer Information System) at EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains) Roll Eyes

Thanks for that.  I was looking at the Live Departures/Arrivals Boards on the FGW (First Great Western) site and nothing was shown for the Okehampton trains (all day).

Does anybody know what has happened to the service to Okehampton this year Huh.  It's in the FGW (First Great Western) timetable but does not appear to be running (today 30 May 2010 at least).  I am planning to use it next Sunday.
3350  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Level Crossing between West Drayton and Slough on: May 30, 2010, 12:24:20
Noted on the FGW (First Great Western) website Roll Eyes

Line problem between West Drayton and Slough.
Train services have been disrupted due to a problem at a level crossing between West Drayton and Slough.Engineers have worked as fast as possible to restore services to normal. Short notice alterations, cancellations and delays of up to 20 minutes may still occur.

My experience of level crossings in Devon and Cornwall is that Truro would be the least likeliest of concern (more likely to be one of the Open Crossings on the Newquay branch).  I do however, and always have, supported the NR» (Network Rail - home page) campaign.
3352  Journey by Journey / Chiltern Railways services / Re: Chiltern Evergreen 3 - Further new Track Access Agreement Application on: May 20, 2010, 20:52:18
I have seen a copy of the draft Signalling Scheme Plan and the Aynho Junction flyover is retained and new facilities added as described in the second post above.  Both lines between Princes Risborough and Aynho Junction will become fully reversible signalled (for 7-day Railway purposes).

Apparently the Dartmoor Railway now have one mile of brand new track, capable of supporting 125 mph trains completed in February by Network rail to trial its High Output Track Renewal Equipment.
http://www.dartmoor-railway.co.uk/news.html
Any one know what lines speeds could be acheived if the entire former Southern Plymouth/Exeter route via Okehampton was re-opened with similarly ugraded track.
Perhaps that was what Devon and Cornwall railways meant by "Improved rail links between Exeter and Plymouth".Just a thought.

Think this stinks a little bit.  Public money (ours) being used to upgrade a private railway.  There are pleanty of 'national' lines that could have been used for the trial (Looe branch on winter sundays comes to mind).
3354  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Yeoford Second platform project boosted by ^250k grant on: January 30, 2010, 21:58:22
people used to say that about yeoford second platform

My response was intended to be 'tongue in cheek'.  I thought the deadline for timetable consultation for May 2010 had passed.  Also I have not seen any reference to any such 'service' application on the ORR» (Office of Rail and Road formerly Office of Rail Regulation - about) website.

So Cheesy Cheesy
3355  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Yeoford Second platform project boosted by ^250k grant on: January 29, 2010, 21:54:53
Quote:It is hoped there will be a through-train from Okehampton to Exeter by May or June, and one to London by December. Yeoford is the only station that will get a new platform, because it is a junction.

3356  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Problems in Cornwall on: January 20, 2010, 12:41:19
Mmmm........

This should not happen.  Long Rock has two exits (as all properly designed depots should have) and not all stabled trains should be trapped so I would be interested to see exactly where the derailment occurred.

I beleive there was a similar incident between Exeter and Taunton just before Xmas.  A friend of my wife had her case stolen (and a number of other people had things stolen).  It has since been found broken in to but with nothing apparently missing.
