No idea on the fencing but surely that pic is a candidate for the Railway Eye Railway Garden Competition!

Maybe down Welly Bank with the wind behind!

Designed maximum speed is 75 mph.

Question to those in the know - Do they often hit the max?
14344  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: East Midlands Trains to close buffet cars on: August 15, 2010, 04:54:52
Could be.

I take it the Customer Host had a chip 'n pin jobbie?

Paging readytostart.... who maybe able to tell us whether the XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) Retail Services Managers have now got the facility to take card payments.

I really should've used my guess on one of the others rather than bluddy Taunton!   Roll Eyes Smiley

*A superstitious ritual that I now do each time that station features on the forum.

12. Lisieux's twin town?
14347  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Busy Saturday on the roads! on: August 14, 2010, 22:47:10
Hmmm.

Mid August and the roads in the westcountry are busy. Who'd've thought it?

And I bet you allowed yourself a smug grin looking at the motorists crawling along the M5!
14349  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Overkill on: August 14, 2010, 22:09:20
All three go via the B&H (Berks and Hants - railway line from Reading to Taunton via Westbury).

1404 calls TAU» (Taunton - next trains) and RDG(resolve).
1411 calls TAU, CLC (Castle Cary), WSB» (Westbury - next trains), PEW, NBY» (Newbury - next trains), RDG.
1418 calls RDG only, passing the 1411 at TAU.
14350  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Group Stations and Ticket Barriers on: August 14, 2010, 22:01:36
The barriers can probably be more accurate. The problem lies with the amount of information that can be stored on ticket stock magnetic strips. A massive 192 bits!

    * Header : 16 bits
    * Rail Settlement Plan Data : 72 bits
    * London Underground Data : 80 bits
    * Checksum : 8 bits

He shoots....... he scores! No. 1 Correct.

However.....my next pic quiz will have to include the rule of 1 guess per person. At least for the first 24 hours. Give everyone a chance to guess.  Wink

Somebody should tell the booking engines that the 1418 is 'set down only' at EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains). I can buy tickets for it next Saturday if I wish.
14353  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: East Midlands Trains to close buffet cars on: August 14, 2010, 20:38:07
I've never quite understood how it is 'an improved experience' to be offered refreshments at the TOCs (Train Operating Company) convenience rather than when you want them.

Walking to the end of Coach F on a Voyager and asking for a coffee and having to wait while an impromptu staff meeting is conducted is not my idea of 'an improved experience'.

EMT» (East Midlands Trains - about) should tell it like it is - it's a cost cutting exercise and nothing to do with improving the experience for customers.

Trolleys are fine on regional services on dmus/emus, but Inter-City operations should have a buffet.

Excellent analysis of the type of stone used in picture 1 B_B. I'm no expert in geology but I'd guess that the colour of the stone is down to volcanic conditions rather than atmospheric conditions....
14355  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Bignose's day out. on: August 14, 2010, 15:34:24
Correct B_B. Plymouth's Barbican is a perfect place to sit and people watch of a summer's evening.
