1  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / New station plans for Energlyn set out on: February 10, 2012, 03:08:59
From My local newspaper, the Caerphilly Campaign:-

Quote from: Caerphilly Campaign
A Proposal to build a new station at Energlyn will be on show this evening at an exhibition, where the public is encouraged to give feedback. The new station, which will be located between Aber and Llanbradach, aims to serve the growing community at Energlyn. Once completed, the scheme will benefit passengers at Energlyn with direct rail services to and from Cardiff for the first time, potentially within two years.

Developed jointly by the Welsh Government, Network Rail, Caerphilly County Borough Council, SEWTA and Arriva Trains Wales, the plan will significantly help ease road congestion and cater for rising rail usage in the area.

The plan proposes that the new station consists of two platforms with step-free access.

2  Journey by Journey / Wales local journeys / Porth railway station proposals on: January 30, 2012, 23:20:47
Quote from: Rhondda Cynon Taf Council
Plans are being prepared to revamp Porth Railway Station thanks to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and its partners.

Proposals include a new station building, ticket office, waiting room, public toilet, retail outlet, the provision of a new station Park & Ride facility, passenger shelter, waiting canopy, ticket machine, help point, and sheltered cycle stands. Improvements will also be made to the station^s fencing, seating provision, platform lighting, signage, information boards and CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision).

Before these proposals can become a reality the Council and its partners, Welsh Government, Sewta (South East Wales Transport Alliance), Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales are asking rail passengers and local residents to play an important role in the changes by asking them to come forward and give their views.

The special consultation exhibition is set to take place on Thursday 9th February from 10:00am until 8:00pm at the Alec Jones Day Centre, Porth. The centre will be fitted with large-scale plans and architect^s impressions of how Porth Railway Station improvement proposals could look and the designers will be on hand to discuss the plans. Once the details of the scheme are finalised, a bid will be submitted for grant funding to enable the scheme to be implemented. If this is successful the works will be complete by 2014.

"An advanced railway could soon be whisking passengers from the centre of Cardiff to the Bay ^ over the heads of people walking below.

Plans for an elevated railway were discussed yesterday by representatives of Cardiff City Council and Monometro, a Blackwood-based company that has developed the state of the art system with the help of Saudi investors".

All aboard the 6 Nations train

Wales and England supporters can travel to the opening RBS 6 Nations game in style, with the trophy in tow.The competition's sponsors have chartered 'The RBS 6 Nations Express', which will leave London Paddington around 3pm on Friday February 4.

Rugby Union fans can relax in a pre-reserved seat with a buffet service, getting supporters to Cardiff with plenty of time to spare.

The service, a joint venture between RBS, Six Nations, the RFU and WRU, will also transport the RBS 6 Nations trophy to Cardiff for the game. The train will arrive at Cardiff Central Station at 5.30pm in good time for the 7.45pm kick-off, and then depart back to London at approximately 10:45pm.

8  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Line incidents causing problems in several locations this evening (29/10/2010) on: October 29, 2010, 22:53:28
Line problems at Paddington, a freight train broken down at Severn Tunnel Junction, and now a signalling failure around Newport station.

Edit and now I see from the Live Departure board on the ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) website that the 2300 arrival at Cardiff Central from Portsmouth Harbour has had to be cancelled between Temple Meads and Filton Abbey Wood because of vandalism

9  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: New Customer Information Systems on: October 23, 2010, 20:08:43

Does anyone know whether any FGW (First Great Western) stations have had the full system fitted/started to be fitted yet?

Louis Smiley

Filton Abbey Wood must've had a new Help Point installed sometime during the week, as I couldn't help but notice those large white machines when the Cardiff -> Taunton train I was on last Thursday slowed into the station.
10  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Ryder Cup 2010 Charter trains - Strange Diversion on: September 24, 2010, 18:45:59
In preperation for the Ryder Cup tournament happening next week in Newport, 'special' trains will be put on between Newport and London Paddington, but the National Rail website has a 'Briston Parkway' as a scheduled stop.

And, wondering whether a 'Briston' did exist, I find it's a village in Norfolk!

13  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Body of woman, 21, found at Maidenhead station (22 May 2010) on: May 23, 2010, 19:36:08
I was a passenger on the 0358 Swansea - Paddington (boarded at Newport) and our train came to a stop at Didcot Parkway just before 7am when an announcement came on saying there'll be a delay to to a fatality on the line in the Maidenhead area.

Some passengers who wanted to go to Reading only were told to go onto a CrossCountry train that was bound for Bournemouth, but I stayed on, where we eventually left after a 25 odd minute delay.

I believe this woman was hit by a freight train as when going slowly through Maidenhead station there was a freight train on the far left line, with us on one of the relief lines.

We got into Paddington 36 mintues late.
14  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Cardiff City at Wembley - need for Extra Coaches? on: May 20, 2010, 14:07:14

This train will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 2".
