1  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: July 17, 2018, 02:18:30 pm
How it seems to be working at Hanborough is that buses turn up from Oxford, Oxford Parkway & Didcot Parkway at about twenty past the hour to decant passengers for the Worcester/Hereford bound service at half past the hour, and to carry forward passengers from the service that terminates at about quarter past the hour.

So around now, three buses have arrived at Hanborough to fit in with the 12:59 WOS:HND and 14:30 HND:WOS...

Quote
12:59 Worcester Shrub Hill to Hanborough due 14:15 will be cancelled.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.

14:30 Hanborough to Worcester Shrub Hill due 15:32 will be cancelled.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.
2  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: July 11, 2018, 06:36:37 pm
By amazing co-incidence, my season ticket expired on 6 July so I'm driving to my local Park & Ride and enjoying the walk in. Certainly quicker and more efficient than the bus replacement but it won't replace the trains once they're back. Meanwhile, on the Cotswold Line:

Quote
17:26 Worcester Foregate Street to Hanborough due 18:50 will be cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

and:

Quote
19:34 Hanborough to Hereford due 21:32 will be cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

as well as a couple of inconveniences:

Quote
Facilities on the 17:50 Hanborough to Great Malvern due 19:22.
Toilet facilities are not available.

Facilities on the 19:43 Great Malvern to Hanborough due 21:15.
Toilet facilities are not available.
3  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: July 05, 2018, 08:21:19 pm
And now it's the turn of the 17:22 to get speeded up by not stopping:
Quote
17:22 London Paddington to Hereford due 20:26 will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh and Honeybourne.
It is being delayed between Reading and Oxford and is now expected to be 20 minutes late.
This is due to congestion.

That's a curious one. It's not unusual for this service to be running late - it's been at least ten minutes (and often much more) through Wolvercote Junction on eight of the last nine days - so it's odd that GWR has decided to cut out stops today. Were there other delays elsewhere on the line that made this a sensible option, or is this a new tool GWR has decided to use to manage its performance figures?

(It's a service I pay attention to as it's the one my partner used to take before she decided driving to and from Reading was a more reliable and flexible option than using GWR trains).
4  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: July 05, 2018, 03:14:31 pm
And now it's a different sort of part cancellation!

Quote
14:21 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 16:44 will no longer call at Slough, Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Honeybourne and Pershore.
It has been delayed at London Paddington and is now 40 minutes late.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.

Part cancellations (for that is what they are) are probably amendments as far as the whole journey goes. unless you have a part-cancellation option.....

Anyway, it's no longer a part cancellation!

Quote
13:55 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington due 16:31 has been cancelled.
This is due to a fault on this train.

and as I type at 15:00, the 14:21 Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street is still sitting at Paddington "due to this train being late from the depot."... and as I finish typing at 15:02 it has just departed!
6  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: July 05, 2018, 01:02:02 pm
Just for the record:

Quote
11:20 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 13:44 was terminated at Oxford.

This is due to a fault on this train.

and

Quote
13:55 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington due 16:31 will be started from Oxford.

This is due to a fault on this train.

Just breaking:

Quote
Cancellations to services between Didcot Parkway and Oxford
Due to a points failure between Didcot Parkway and Oxford some lines towards Oxford are blocked.
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 15:30 04/07.
Last Updated:04/07/2018 14:29

[edit] - so far nothing seems to have moved for about 40 minutes
8  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Infrastructure problems in Thames Valley causing disruption elsewhere - ongoing, since Oct 2014 on: July 04, 2018, 09:40:43 am
Due to a fault with the signalling system between London Paddington and Ealing Broadway some lines are closed.
Impact: Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 10 minutes. Disruption is expected until 10:00 04/07.

And inevitably:

And a new excuse:
Quote
06:52 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 09:37 has been cancelled.
This is due to a late departure while the train was cleaned specially.

not forgetting the return run:

Quote
09:54 Great Malvern to London Paddington due 12:28 will be cancelled.
This is due to a late departure while the train was cleaned specially.

It's another poor day today:

Quote
16:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 19:24 was terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Combe, Finstock, Charlbury, Ascott-under-Wychwood, Shipton, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne, Evesham, Pershore, Worcester Shrub Hill, Worcester Foregate Street, Malvern Link and Great Malvern.
This is due to a fault on this train.
Last Updated:03/07/2018 17:22

with the return 19:42 GMV:PAD starting from Oxford.

[later edit] and to top it, the following service (17:22 Paddington to Hereford) is running 23 minutes late!

[even later edit] - the 17:22 was 37 late through Wolvercote Junction and lost more time on the remainder of its journey. A very late home time for those on the 16:22 travelling beyond Oxford.

12  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / 12:09 Hereford to Paddington on: July 03, 2018, 11:39:51 am
Being a bit of an anorak, I find myself keeping an eye on the services coming on and off the Cotswold Line at Wolvercote Junction around 2 - 2.30pm, as delays then can have knock on effects that disrupt the early evening peak from Oxford when I'm wanting to get home.

I have noticed that the 12:09 Hereford to Paddington seems to be late through Worcester almost every day. It does have a ten minute contingency at Moreton-in-Marsh but even that seems to be insufficient at times. As far as I can tell, it was at least ten minutes late at Evesham every day in June (and was again yesterday).

I'm a little curious as to why this delay seems to be the norm. Any ideas?
13  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Infrastructure problems in Thames Valley causing disruption elsewhere - ongoing, since Oct 2014 on: July 03, 2018, 10:58:58 am
Disruption is expected until 10:45 03/07.

And we know what's coming...

Quote
Disruption is expected until 12:45 03/07.

further info:

Quote
Owing to a fault with the signalling system on the approach to London Paddington station some lines have had to be closed which limits the number of train movements that can be accommodated. As a result a number of routes will see a reduction in the frequency of services until such time as the fault has been rectified.
14  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: July 03, 2018, 08:25:36 am
Same again today, and it looks like (as I suspected) the ‘planning error’ is allocating a driver who doesn’t sign the traction.

"05:47 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 08:15 was terminated at Oxford."

and naturally:

Quote
08:25 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington due 10:57 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

though it's not clear why it's not going to be started from Oxford (not that that would be of any benefit to Cotswold Line passengers)

and a minor irritation - the 0710 MIM:PAD came off the Cotswold Line on time and was promptly put onto the relief track and held for 15 minutes whilst a number of services were put ahead of it (one was clearly a late running Cross Country train).

A new month and a very familiar "favourite" makes its first appearance of the month:

Quote
15:50 London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh due 17:26 will be cancelled.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.

but don't worry

Quote
Customers' tickets will be valid on the next available services.

and ditto the return 17:38 MIM:PAD
