391  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: June 12, 2018, 12:15:41
I've given up on the 15:50 Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh because I can't trust GWR (Great Western Railway) to run it beyond Oxford and now catch the 15:22 Paddington to Great Malvern...

Quote
15:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 17:58 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

I suppose a fair bit of notice has been given. Fingers crossed no problems with the 15:50 today.
392  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: June 11, 2018, 17:14:55
Guess what?

Quote
15:50 London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh due 17:26 will be terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Slough, Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham and Moreton-in-Marsh.
It has been delayed at London Paddington and is now 24 minutes late.
This is due to train crew being delayed.
Last Updated:11/06/2018 16:35

and the return from MIM as well.

An old favourite rears its head again today:

And, as so often, a very late call.

By my reckoning that's the 23rd time this year this service has not run on to Moreton-in-Marsh - almost once a week.
394  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: March void days on: June 02, 2018, 19:11:57
But its partof larger charter group to which that definition applies, not just to the Cotswold Line per se

I understand that but I don't think it's of much  relevance  to Cotswold Line season ticket holders that there was a "generally good" service between London and Reading.
395  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: March void days on: June 02, 2018, 12:29:48
In this morning's post there was a letter "from" Mark Hopwood confirming Thursday 1 March as a void day. No mention of the Friday when the Cotswold Line service was virtually non-existent.

I will be following this up.

I received a cheque in the post in respect of 2 March so GWR (Great Western Railway) are clearly giving fair consideration to Cotswold Line season ticket holders who ask for a "goodwill gesture". However, that isn't really the point: the level of service on 2 March on the Cotswold Line met GWR's Passenger's Charter's definition of a void day - the onus shouldn't have been put on customers to make a claim.
396  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: June 01, 2018, 11:10:50
Perhaps "normal" was the wrong word.

From JourneyCheck:

Delays to services between Oxford and Worcester Shrub Hill
Due to a fault with the signalling system between Oxford and Worcester Shrub Hill trains have to run at reduced speed.
Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 20 minutes. Disruption is expected until 01:30 01/06.
Last Updated:01/06/2018 00:23

Seems to be something more difficult to resolve:

Quote
Due to a fault with the signalling system between Oxford and Worcester Shrub Hill fewer trains are able to run. Disruption is expected until 17:30 01/06.

Train services between Oxford and Worcester Shrub Hill may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or terminated at and started back from Worcester Shrub Hill [and] train services between Worcester Shrub Hill and Hereford may be cancelled.

From Realtime trains this morning:

04:47 Hereford to Paddington - cancelled between Hereford and Oxford due to the planned train being replaced with a slower train (MS);
05:28 Hereford to Paddington - 26 late at Wolvercote Junction, 41 late at Paddington;
06:42 Hereford to Paddington - 22 late at Wolvercote Junction, 32 late at Paddington;
07:10 Moreton-in-Marsh to Paddington - cancelled throughout due to a signal failure (J3);
09:50 Moreton-in-Marsh to Paddington - cancelled between Moreton-in-Marsh and Oxford due to a signalling problem (track circuit failure) (IC (Inter City)).
397  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: May 29, 2018, 18:00:45
And for those hoping to get home a little later this evening:

Quote
19:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 21:26 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

20:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 22:20 will be terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne and Evesham.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.
398  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: May 29, 2018, 11:32:30
Seems like a good week to have taken off work.

Looking at Realtime Trains the service this morning seems to have been patchy at best:

0527 Evesham to Reading started from Oxford due to signal box not being open;
The equivalent of the 0447 Hereford to Paddington not scheduled to run;
0637 Evesham to Paddington terminated at Oxford due to problems with traction equipment;
0755 Evesham to Paddington cancelled as mentioned above.

And some further issues from JourneyCheck:

Quote
10:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 12:21 was terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne and Evesham.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

11:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 13:21 will be terminated at Oxford.
It will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne and Evesham.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

12:21 London Paddington to Evesham due 14:19 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at London Paddington, Slough and Reading.
This is due to a broken down train earlier today.

17:22 London Paddington to Evesham due 19:14 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at London Paddington and Reading.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

And the return runnings of the 1022 & 1122 also affected:

Quote
13:17 Evesham to London Paddington due 15:27 will be started from Oxford.
It will no longer call at Evesham, Honeybourne, Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham, Charlbury and Hanborough.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

399  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: May 21, 2018, 17:48:33
Whilst it was great to see the 15:22 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains):GMV (and a number of other services) being booked as an HST (High Speed Train), not such good news on the return run:

Quote
18:29 Great Malvern to London Paddington due 21:05 will be terminated at Worcester Shrub Hill.
It will no longer call at Pershore, Evesham, Honeybourne, Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham, Charlbury, Hanborough, Oxford, Reading, Slough and London Paddington.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

and later on:

Quote
20:22 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 22:57 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.
400  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: 15:22 Paddington - Great Malvern (10 July 2017) on: May 21, 2018, 17:44:41
Good to see this busy train is now booked to be in the hands of a HST (High Speed Train) in the interim period before more IETs (Intercity Express Train) are added.

Not only that, the 07:10 MIM:PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) is also now an HST (at least it was this morning) and it looks like the 17:52 PAD:WOS» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains) will be as well.

402  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Cotswold Line - 2018 cancellation and amendments log on: May 18, 2018, 08:14:44
Couple this morning:

Quote
05:47 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 08:15 will be terminated at Oxford.
It has been delayed at Didcot Parkway and is now 30 minutes late.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.

08:25 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington due 10:57 will be started from Oxford.

That particular Twitter account has been pulled/deleted/removed since yesterday evening. It was a fairly dormant account with just a handful of tweets - the last before the one referred to above being in January.

The impact of signalling problems spreads far and wide. Luckily, GWR (Great Western Railway) have an easy and regular fix for some congestion issues:
