Relay the old Lyme Regis bay on the up platform. Then the service could wait for the down and up Waterloos which cross here. It could thus serve as a connection into and out of the London services which could run Honiton and Exeter only.

As I remember it the first snow fell on Boxing day in Crewkerne while the main fall was a few days later. The local crossing keeper at Crewkerne Gates had no need of opening the gates for many weeks. Sadly our school remained open!

Poundbury has the number 6 circular running through it every half hour, https://www.morebus.co.uk/services/DAMY/6

plus the 51 Bridport to Dorchester Sth every 2 hours.

In addition there is the number 10 service which runs from Weymouth to Mansell Square at Poundbury every 20 minutes and the Dorchester circular, number 1, running every hour, this being complete with bus tracking technology. The problem is that Mansell Square is at the entrance to Poundbury rather than the centre of it,

Did you manage to see the old Gosport station, the first station for Portsmouth opened in 1841, six years before Portsmouth and Southsea station and used by Queen Victoria to get to the IoW?

This image was sold as a postcard by the Museum in Weymouth many years ago.
It depicts Weymouth station c1857. Note the fantail signal.

I have a very dusty manuscript on the line’s history that I researched some 20 years ago. It covers the period from 1835 to 1914 and was refused for publication as it did not cover more recent history. Now I publish my own research but the cost of getting the permissions to use the images I would need will be too great to make it worth while.
The Weymouth branch was only put forward as a means of blocking the LSWR (London South Western Railway) from a westward extension. Documents in the National Archive detail this and the cooperation of the GWR (Great Western Railway) and B&E(resolve) in defining the route to be taken.
In the late 1840s work was suspended as a result of financial difficulties. However the 1851 census shows contractors and navvies at work at Evershot (Holywell) tunnel and the one at Upwey. The tunnel at Grimstone was insisted upon by Sheridan, owner of Frampton Court, wishing to preserve his access to game. While that at Poundbury led to the formation of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society.

345  Journey by Journey / South Western services / South Western Railways - reductions west of Salisbury on: January 16, 2022, 22:35:35
Interesting to see Nick Hurrell pointing out that very few services had been cancelled in recent weeks. Looking at RTT» (Real Time Trains - website) regularly that was the impression I had. So is Covid really the reason behind the changes?
The result is about 20 minutes wait at Salisbury followed by another 15 minutes at Yeovil, where the trains pass each other.
