886  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Brand New Rolling Stock for FGW. on: October 16, 2007, 17:31:22
The rake was down in Cornwall alot in the summer working an extra summer only service most days. Quite nice inside. Better than FGW (First Great Western) un-refurb sets.

The thing about 158's is that there everyones favourite. So the good TOC (Train Operating Company)'s make an efort to get them i.e. Northern. The DFT (Department for Transport) then say Angel Trains must give Northern 30 158's. FGW (First Great Western) don't do anything about trying to keep them so there going to be taking away. What we get in return is 142's which will be replaced by 158's at Northern. Straight swap. Different unit.
I find it staggering more noise is not being made about this swap. I dont think in the main the travelling public know what is happening yet...they will come December!
To right they'll know. Turn up to travel on the day of change expecting to have a nice comfortable journey. Then they'll bodies will be ripped apart as they won't be used to traveling on pacers.

889  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornish mainline closure 20th-24th October on: October 09, 2007, 17:27:59
The Loco hauled services WILL be running between Bodmin Road and Penzance during the closure of the line! I have been advised that all problems have now been ironed out between Network Rail / FGW (First Great Western) and EWS (English Welsh & Scottish Railway Ltd, now known as DB Schenker Rail (UK (United Kingdom))) on the operation of advertised passenger services , common sense prevails perhaps ?

Does aybody no know what locomoives and what coacing stock will be used? And if it will be used Saturday/Sunday?

I wasn't complaining about journeys in Cornwall although i'm hoping we won't have to use them they're better than no train at all or an overcrowded train with less cariages.

Does anybody know what seating layout the 142's have? As although I live in Cornwall one is bound to end up on the Exmouth-Penzance diagram soon enough despite what FGW (First Great Western) say.

Picture of two Class 142's being stabled at Exeter.
Excellent for FGW that they already come in their colour. All they need to do is stick the 'F' on the side and off we go, instant trains, problems solved.
Stick F on the side. I doubt it. The never put there names on any local stock. The wessex untis still don't say fgw after 1 and 1/2 years.
They have on one of their Bristol Based 143s.
Yeh that was only because it suffered a Graffiti attack and painting it FGW blue was cheaper/easier than cleaning it up. It still has destinations from the old livery on the window though.
892  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: FGW approach to checking of tickets on: October 08, 2007, 16:20:40
In Cornwall HST (High Speed Train) guards hardly ever check tickets. I dont think they can be bovered to walk the length of the train. On HST's from London the guard is in the buffet, which is usually closed, and just walks to coach E to open the doors and usually lets platform staff do all the work.
But as long as a local train isnt busy or late your tickets get checked. On the Falmouth branch the other weekend there was a revenue inspector and when the train got busy from Falmouth to Truro she and the guard were both checking tickets. Going back on the mainline to Camborne she also got on that and did an "all tickets please" check.
Once when I was travelling to London with my family we had to get the Cardiff service(pre December 06 timetable but still FGW (First Great Western)) and change at Taunton and the guard just walked straight past us thinking he'd already checked our tickets and didn't we get checked all the way to Taunton. If you're checking tickets on a two-carriage train surely you have a rough idea where people were sitting and atleast ask.

894  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: Useful Service Incident on: October 07, 2007, 13:11:31
If it was going to be ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) why would they tell people it was running as it could cause confusion with people turning up to get the train for it to be cancelled.
895  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Useful Service Incident on: October 07, 2007, 09:07:39
I was looking o FGW (First Great Western) website and found this useful service incident:
09:03 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads due 10:53
This train has been reinstated. It will no longer call at: London Paddington, Reading, Didcot Parkway, Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads.

 Huh
896  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Portsmouth - Cardiff Disruption (06/10/2007) on: October 06, 2007, 20:21:43
Probably a high-density HST (High Speed Train). Pack the rugby fans in. Typical FGW (First Great Western) thinking.

What a load of absolute bollocks. Angry They don't have a clew what they're talking about. If they actually got on the services they "investigated" they would find the reason why ihatefirstgreatwestern hate FGW (First Great Western). They produce a video with no research into the subject. These people are trying to make a difference to how lousy FGW are and then stupid false videos like this are produced showing them as criminals.
899  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Pure Luxury on: October 05, 2007, 17:51:16
If it was meant to be three-car today FGW (First Great Western) now have to apoliges to us even if there doing something good for once. I expect it wasn't a 158.
900  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornish mainline closure 20th-24th October on: October 04, 2007, 21:34:47
Does anybody have an idea which trains will operate on those days. Some our listed with first class so i imagine some HST (High Speed Train)'s some units and possibly the sleeper carriages(they have done before, with sleepers out of use.)
