901  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: West Country Branch Line closures Autumn 07 on: October 04, 2007, 19:30:52
Why is the closure of the same lines at the same time of year required EVERY year for the past three or four?  Do it properly once, and surely it could last?!

AGREED!

Its always over half term too so thats my week down the pan.
Yeh i agree with you there.
902  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornish mainline closure 20th-24th October on: October 04, 2007, 19:29:22
How did you find this out? (about the loco hauled trains)
903  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Falmouth Branch line on: October 03, 2007, 20:35:12
FGW (First Great Western) probably have a think tank to come up with differing ways of saying 'The train is broke' 'the staff are sick or cant be done with working for us anymore' 'Network rail cant look after two parallel strips of steal or coloured lights that our trains run on'
Its true. They seem to come up with a new one every couple of months. The latest is resourcing difficultys. It covers no trains, no driver, no guard, no track(probaly)
904  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: West Country Branch Line closures Autumn 07 on: October 03, 2007, 20:33:07
Essential annual engineering work.
I didn't know there was such a thing. Branchlines being closed anually Huh Whats that all about
905  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Falmouth Branch line on: October 03, 2007, 15:57:20
Presumably due to the failure of 150233 on the previous days last Newquay trip....
Ye h i expect so as the first Newquay trains were operating as 1 car sprinters instead of 2 car sprinters.
906  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Falmouth Branch line on: October 03, 2007, 07:54:13
Falmouth Branch Line services again this morning. I asume it is a lack of trains again as trains are short formed all over.
907  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Trial HST Stop Carried Out At Ivybridge on: October 02, 2007, 20:13:13
HST (High Speed Train)'s have stopped at Dawlish Warren previously.
908  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Concessionary bus fares and EU rules lead to real problems on: October 01, 2007, 19:42:00
I know. The bus fares are extorciante in Cornwall compared to the train which is cheap if you travel off-peak. I can (on a childs ticket) travel for roughly the same price between Helston and Penzance(10 miles) on the bus and Camborne and Plymouth on the train.
909  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Concessionary bus fares and EU rules lead to real problems on: October 01, 2007, 19:36:15
The bus companies have a clever plan to get more money back for free concessionary fares. They often give out returns instead of singles. They don't care what the destination says on the ticket and are more the happy to make it say the full length of the journey for a one stop journey.
910  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Great Western December 2007 Timetable Now Online on: October 01, 2007, 19:15:14
The return operates to Exmouth so i don't think it will be HST (High Speed Train). But the return is also listed with a 1. A bit weird. I hope it is a HST though as the PNZ-EXM is always packed because it connects to London.
911  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Great Western December 2007 Timetable Now Online on: October 01, 2007, 19:07:44
I do not think 1 means first class as the 06.47 BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI))-PNZ is listed with a 1 in the London-West of England services.(page 2 train 2c43) I do not imagine that train having first class. Cheesy
912  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: YOU LUCKY LOT! on: October 01, 2007, 19:02:31
Are the extra seats going to be new? Just a thought because they'll stick out from the rest of the carriage and either everyone will sit there or no one will sit there. On the TPE (Trans Pennine Express) units people are always afraid to sit in the ex-first class section because they think it still is first class.
913  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: YOU LUCKY LOT! on: October 01, 2007, 18:43:34
Any idea if its in service or when it will be in service? Definetly will improve journeys, better than the dark and dingy TPE (Trans Pennine Express) units. Any idea what happened to the ex-first class section? Will they still have bigger, more comfortable seats?
914  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Great Western December 2007 Timetable Now Online on: October 01, 2007, 18:37:46
Any idea what the codes mean? Huh Such as:1,+ and triple dots. Is one of them no buffet car?  Huh
915  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Class 142 Pacers in service on Devon branch lines, 2007 to 2011 - merged topic on: October 01, 2007, 16:20:52
I take it the 159+158 are totally unusable because they are the most popular older DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit)'s.
