I reluctantly unfollowed the FGW▸ Twitter feed the other day as the amount of information on marginal disruptions was getting overwhelming.
If Paddington-Reading is fouled up then the tweets are really welcome and appreciated. But "Ticket Veding Machine at Par is currently out of use. Ticket office will be open until 14.15, after that customers advised to buy on board" is, really, not of much import to 99% of followers. Perhaps having separate @FGW_West, @FGW_ThamesValley, @FGW_S_Wales etc. for such information might be better? (Shouldn't be any additional burden with software such as TweetDeck.)
But on the other hand Paddington-Reading being fouled up isnt important to me, but knowing I can buy on board from Par is. So yes perhaps a regional twitter as you suggest,

Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Devon rail passengers delayed after woman killed on tracks, Totnes - 20 Oct 2012

There were problems even before the incident. The 07:59 from Penzance to London Paddington struggled all the way through Cornwall before being declared a failure at Plymouth. Passengers would have been planning to continue their journey on the following service but that too was cancelled at Plymouth because of the fatality. Both services were restarted at Exeter St David's but that obviously wasn't any help for those stranded at Plymouth.
I imagine the 07:59 was an engine down, as it didnt call at Bodmin Parkway, which is the normal when an engine down due to the incline on departure. (This post is an assumption and carries no actual knowledge of the fault)

Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Maritime rail line from Truro to Falmouth celebrates 150th birthday

Falmouth to Truro 150 anniversary celebrations from this is cornwall http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/Maritime-rail-line-frm-Truro-Falmouth-celebrates/story-17134100-detail/story.htmlPlans are afoot to mark next year's 150th anniversary of the branch line that runs between Truro, Penryn and Falmouth.
The Maritime Line celebration falls over the August Bank Holiday and a wide range of activities are in the pipeline.
They include an open day at Penmere Platform, a major exhibition at The Poly in Falmouth and the possible visit of a steam locomotive.
Two meetings have already been held to come up with and discuss plans.
Organisations dotted along the line are signing up and the non-profit body which promotes the line, the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership is appealing for more people to get involved.
Richard Burningham, manager at the partnership, said: "The Maritime Line is hugely successful, with passenger numbers doubling since 2009, and I hope we can make next year's 150th anniversary celebrations a big, varied event with as many people involved as possible.
"We are particularly looking for people who would like to get involved in organising activities to be part of the programme."
Steve Lloyd, chairman of the Friends of Penmere Station said: "2013 is a double celebration for us ^ 150 years of the railway and 20 years of our group. My particular hope is that we see steam return to Falmouth as part of the festivities."

Just beware, the law is changing in this area has changed. Anybody is now able to claim unpaid parking charges from the registered keeper of the vehicle, only councils can do this at the moment. The laws haven't been tested in the courts yet but any reasonable parking charges should probably be paid now. The letters threatening court action may now have some substance.
a reasonable charge in law can not be anything more than costs incurred by ticket issuer. It has to be the cost it physically cost the company to issue that ticket, plus the original ticket price. e.g. parking pay and display ticket price, 10 mins of car park attendant hourly rate to issue the ticket (if that), and the cost of the ticket stock that it was issued on.

Jo, I havent been able to fault the twitter feed. Perhaps having front line staff being able to view your tweets, as 9/10 times there is more info on your twitter feed than the staff know about an incident. I regularly hear passengers telling the staff whats happened from Twitter/ Facebook/ local news bulletins mentioning a incident, and the staff werent aware of whats happening other than they're delayed.
