2731  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / most friendliest cheerful tm/guard/ whatever they are called this week on: December 16, 2011, 22:11:56
Travelled 0801 from Penryn to truro this morning and I must say I have never come across such a happy cheerful guard so early in the morning. His cheerful happiness definitely brightened up my morning. If it was any of the staff members off here thank you for such a cheery start to my Friday morning!

yes the road sign  i referred to does feature BNM's avatar. it is directly opposite long rock depot on what is known locally as "long rock road" unsure if that is the actual road name!
2733  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: extremely outdated sign on: December 05, 2011, 07:03:02
We may be talking about different Great Westerns here...! I think the OP (Original Poster / topic starter) refers to the "Merlin" logo as used by Great Western Trains from privatization until it was replaced with the corporate First branding, whereas the post above I think is referring to the old Great Western Railway "GWR (Great Western Railway)", which well over 60 years after the GWR ceased to exist can still be spotted all over the system.

Yes the sign I refer to features the merlin,

Walking through long rock earlier past fgw depot, noticed the road sign for the depot has a "great western" logo on it. I.e. the one used before first were involved! Is there anywhere else where old logos can be found?

Thanks guys very useful info.
Going to make the most of the train now as once I move I won't be able to.
I'm moving to st erth, will still be commuting to truro daily, the timetable heading west from.truro in evening peak shows a gap in service from 1720 ish until 1850 ish. I can only think its a joke by fgw, as surely many commuters like myself who finish at 5 in the  main area where loads of offices are situated can not get to the station by 1720, and aren't going to wait until almost 7 for a train! It's a 25 min walk from where a lot of offices are situated, perhaps if their was a service at just after 1730 from truro heading west, fgw will see passenger numbers soar!

Thanks and that's ok to use on peak services? Purchase from manned station?
2737  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / penryn to truro weekly ticket on: December 04, 2011, 11:40:29
Is there a weekly fare available? Would be travelling outbound to arrive by 830 returning about 1730 on weekdays. I hold a y.p railcard. I'm moving house to a completly different area imminently so don't want to buy more than a week at a time. A daily ticket due to the peak morning is 3.60. Costs me about 3.00 a day to drive, so trying to find if anyway to find train travel cheaper. I work about 25 min walk from the station, we have a free staff car park. I'm just looking for ways to save money in anyway possible at the moment!
2738  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon / Re: Tarka Line - Exeter to Barnstaple - services, passenger numbers, carriages, engineering works, incidents and events on: December 02, 2011, 18:10:51
how does 2 153s have more seats than 2 143s? 46 each apparantly?

2 car 143 = 106 passengers seats. 2 x 153 = 150 seats.  44 seats more + 2 x driver's seats in mid cabs on 153s = 46 seats more.

ok i read it as 2 x 153s replacing 2 x143s (i.e. 4 carriages)

do not acknowledge the debt under any circumstances, as soon as you acknowledge the "debt" in any way shape or form, it extends how long they can harrass you for. assuming they are chasing a "debt" they will be governed by FSA rules or something similar, which has a regulation of a maximum number of times they can call each day.

so will it just be a swap for st ives 150 for now? Falmouth packet, bbc cornwall all quote FGW (First Great Western) saying the extra carriage will be on Falmouth branch from May, until then they quote that there will be 1 150 and 1 153 as it is now!
2742  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Falmouth branch overcrowding on: November 24, 2011, 19:23:12

I drove southbound along this stretch of road around 7pm last night, the weather was atrocious, to such an extent i came off the motorway at j25 and visited the sainsburys for a while looking round to allow the weather to calm a little. The rain was so heavy i couldnt see the front of my car, yet people were still driving at I'd estimate 90mph. The dot matrix wasnt in use to show a lower limit (was in use on the m6 in much better conditions). As i reached the A38, the A38 was closed due to a severe accident caused by poor weather conditions
