Cancellations to services between Truro and Falmouth Docks
Due to a fault with the signalling system between Truro and Falmouth Docks the line is closed. (Lightning strike yesterday)
Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 09:00 06/09.
Customer Advice
We're sorry for the disruption to your journey this morning.
We have been unable to source any replacement transport to run in place of the train service as local operators have no taxis or coaches available. (First day back for most school/College pupils)
We have also been unable to arrange for your tickets to be accepted on the local buses between Truro and Falmouth, we are still trying to do this. Until then, if you wish to use local buses, please purchase a ticket on the bus, keep it and send it, together with your train ticket, to us to claim for a refund of the bus fare.
Lightning strikes damaged signalling equipment at Penryn yesterday. Network Rail are finishing their work to fix and test this this morning.
I don't understand why no bus acceptance of rail tickets. This has always come in to force when the branch goes down. Radio shout from control to accept all tickets.
Truronian did have a contract with GWR▸ to be on standby 24x7, but that hasn't come into play it seems.
GoCornwall were wanting the standby contract, but that's another query.
Cornwall Council were trying to integrate rail and bus interchanges, etc.
Puzzled of Penwith
GWR will have phoned FTS to arrange transport or ticket acceptance. FTS will probably phone the Truro office number which won’t have been manned that early in the morning. For out of normal office hours (8-6 ish) they’d likely get a better response from Camborne or summercourt duty control? |

16:52 Paignton to London Paddington due 20:07 will be terminated at Exeter St Davids.
It will no longer call at Taunton, Castle Cary, Westbury, Pewsey, Hungerford, Newbury, Reading and London Paddington.
This is due to failure of the electricity supply. Reason given a surprise? There was a power cut at Exeter St David’s this afternoon. Wiped out essential equipment |

There was no problem with the rail. There was 10 53 seater coaches on Standby, I was one of them. Every 9 car IeT cleared the queue. 1000 or so people queuing with all their camping kit made the queue look huge.
Bodmin parkway is a no go for road transport in general. Of the 10 coaches on standby yesterday, only 1 of them would fit under the low bridge. PSVAR coaches are typically taller than their non PSVAR cousins. I had a Mk2▸ Scania Levante (ex national express) and it was marked 12’9. Par is not the best place due to lack of off Road space for coaches to park so we’d end up blocking the road.
Had we been used GWR▸ had suggested they’d send us to Tiverton or Exeter to spread the load and give the options of Paignton and Exeter originating trains
Nice to hear a report from someone actually 'on the ground'. Cornwall live have posted loads of **** all week. I’ve been on the ground in the bus operations the entire festival. Queues for shuttle buses reported bad… we had a 85 or 105 seat double decker running every 60-90 seconds. We were loading and going. It would be impossible to go any more frequent. Most of the time we were loading two buses at a time. The main bus stop in use in town can only physically fit two buses at once. We had buses queued up 30 seconds away ready to pounce as soon as a space on the stop became available |

So what's the answer to this now annual problem? Using Par and/or Bodmin Parkway as a staging point for Boardmasters and using road transport for the rest of the journey to/from the Festival? It's clear now that the NQY▸ line isn't robust enough to cope, at least until the Mid Cornwall Metro work is completed.

Tomorrow ...
Buses to Luxulyan at 07:12, 09:15, 13:10 and 17:19
Trains to Paddington at 07:40, 09:19, 11:18, 13:19, 14:55 and 18:04.
Trains to Par at 19:45 and 21:34
We’ve at least 4 coaches on standby at Newquay rail station tomorrow too. |

Recently 'semi-retired' and now in the possesion of a bus pass.
Journey times obviously take longer but the stops are more convenient for my source and final destination.
Obviously can only travel 'off-peak' ... Ditto ... but I have modified your text 1. Some journeys don't take longer - home to Bath is quicker by bus than by train - especially if I look at frequency of daytime weekday services and have to be in Bath for an appointment and don't want to hang around waiting because the train is infrequent and inconveniently timed. 2. I have added "source and" - the bus stop is literally outside our home, whereas the train station is a 20 minute walk, no buses call there and no free parking at the station any longer so if driving I may as well "railhead" at Chippenham, Trowbridge or Westbury and save myself a change, and on return save myself a potentially long wait. 3. Even though I have a senior bus card, I can use the bus at any time - I just have to pay as I do with the train. Locally at present, there's an arrangement for this to be at a child's fare In addition, buses from Melksham to neighbouring towns are far more reliable that trains at present. Heading to Bristol? Far better to railhead at Bath where, even if some trains to Bristol are cancelled, there will be another one along within the half hour than end up hanging around at a station with no train for ages. Heading toward Brighton? If there's any doubt about the train, far better to get the bus to Trowbridge where the train runs direct at least as far as Cosham. Also add to point 3, some local authorities have removed time restrictions for concession pass holders to be used for free. Others have relaxed their timings. Cornwall is one example within the GWR▸ area where no time Restrictions exist for using concession passes and they can be used 24/7 |
