Interesting Penzance to Cardiff Central services that are appearing. Roughly 2 hourly but no obvious pattern for them.

These houses are finally going to be built of Callington Road soon.
I wonder if this is indication the railway is edging closer. If provision is being left for the reinstanted rail link.

Read that embankment would have to be altered if used as a single track route. Is that considerable work?

Only issue is the concourse seems to be just a further extention of the current layout. The concourse is very small and needs major reworking in my eyes.  Also hoping the platforms are spruced up they are rather grim right now.

The escalators outosde going down are very modern and so unlike Plymouth and I love it. Makes Plymouth feel more of a modern up and coming city.

Plymouth council yesterday approved £26m funding towards the stat ion remodelling. Work is due to start soon..

There is also a new artist impression floating around showing a redesigned large new concourse which looks really smart.
5  Journey by Journey / To Oxford, Didcot and Reading from West / Services from Devon and Cornwall to Swindon. on: August 16, 2018, 12:04:00
Why do GWR (Great Western Railway) chop and change with the direct nature of these services.

I travel between Swindon and Plymouth alot. And earlier in the year I caught various direct services. These were London to Penzance/Plymouth services that used the Melksham branch after swindon to reach Westbury.

However now I cannot book any sort of direct service which I assume is related to the May 2018 timetable change.

Was there a specific reason this element changed?
6  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cutdown 125's to operate Penzance to Plymouth clockface service on: February 24, 2018, 15:11:57
Is this clockface service stopping at all stations on the Cornish Main Line?
Saltash; St Germans; Menheniot; Liskeard; Bodmin; Lostwithiel; Par; St Austell; Truro; Redruth; Camborne; Hayle; St Erth; Penzance.

2023 that's just ridiculous. This project is taking so long. What happened to 2017.
8  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Potential Plympton Railway Station! on: January 16, 2015, 11:20:13
In plymouth there seems to be a growing support in favour of suburban railway stations. Inparticular plympton. On the old mega bowl site in plympton lidl have been given permission to build a new store on that site. And a lot of people are saying this should have been kept for a railway station.

I think if it was possible extending the plymouth to gunnislake service to plympton could be a possible solution to serve a potential station in the area.

I think it will never happen, but I'm glad there seems to be a lot more wanting local stations and see the need for them.

Is this project DOA with the talk of reopening the whole route from tavistock to okehampton being discussed map by government.
10  All across the Great Western territory / Looking forward - after Coronavirus to 2045 / Re: Dft seeks views proposed approach for securing next Great Western franchise on: May 27, 2014, 12:31:49
So IEP (Intercity Express Program / Project.) will go to Exeter on some occasions add some will carry on to Paignton. Yet plymouth is stuck with the old rusty HST (High Speed Train). Sigh.

Nice to see here Alston to tavistock additional services on this.
11  Journey by Journey / Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Plymouth Station - refurbishment, improvements, timetable changes, events and incidents (merged topic) on: April 15, 2014, 12:46:05
Well I was travelling through the station yesterday and wow, the. Subway is better then I thought it would be. They have opened it up and doubled the area. The doors that went to the lifts have been merged into one and it's one massive area now. Really suprised at that Smiley. Couldn't get. Any pictures. But it's got no damp or dinge concrete feel. It's modern and fresh.

Need to modernise the central area and you have yourself a nice modern fresh railway station.

It is not yet known how First Great Western
services will be affected by engineering work from Saturday 17 to Friday 23 May 2014. Please check back nearer the time of travel.

I'm travelling plymouth to London. But I'm going via Exeter and changing to a Waterloo service. So does anyone know how this will effect my journey.

Thanks.

My preference is A followed by B.

I think it wouldn't actually see reversals because the services wouldn't actually go to Cornwall via okehampton they would normally go via the existing route. The SWT (South West Trains) Waterloo to Exeter would extended to plymouth via okehampton and tavistock. Needing no reversals.
