Where are The Railway Children and a white flag made from a petticoat when you need them?!?

Agreed. A total shower of s**t.
I’m on a dangerously overcrowded Elizabeth line service that reminds me of the worst days of FGW (First Great Western).
Paddington station platforms are overflowing and 20mins between services that can only pick up a handful of the passengers waiting.
A total joke, and dangerous for all involved.

Sounds serious and could take a significant period of time to resolve dependent upon the site and the unstable area.

Sheet piling as preventative reinforcement could take weeks to design and install - should that be assessed to be necessary.

Thank you. I’ve had worse, but it’s still frustrating.  Delay Repay claims seem to be taking longer to process these days too. Perhaps it’s a backlog!

That’s nice.  I followed the advice I was given, boarded a TfL» (Transport for London - about) service and have been dumped at Slough, with a 25 min wait for the next service.

And I was thinking last week what a quiet Feb it has been….

Disruption now until 19.00 with Maidenhead, Slough and Twyford not being served by GWR (Great Western Railway). Lovely.

Maidenhead station Platform 2 has recently undergone significant works to install fences and gates (which make it nigh on impossible to access a train quickly and which exacerbate crowding on the platform).  Have these been installed as a suicide prevention measure?

Followup question: what is the logic on these measures as it is still possible to access the platform and, to my knowledge, no one has successfully attempted suicide from the platform in the past decade. All the while other ‘hotspots’ exist throughout the network.

I don’t think that was what TaplowGreen was implying. He was asking whether lessons about ineffective evacuations have been learnt to prevent them reoccurring.

Important Announcement: Trains ARE currently running between Reading and Paddington

11  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Infrastructure problems in Thames Valley causing disruption elsewhere - ongoing, since Oct 2014 on: December 12, 2023, 22:50:06
A genuine question.  When will the line from Maidenhead to Paddington be (properly) fixed and issues relegated to at least a fortnightly if not monthly occurence?

Points failure at Slough. Delays. Again.
13  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Christmas 2023 at Paddington - no trains on 24, 25, 26, 27 December on: November 21, 2023, 13:31:28
Genuine question with no agenda to be inferred…  why does GWR (Great Western Railway) shut completely over Christmas whereas Chiltern Railways maintain a half-hourly service to Marylebone on Boxing Day?

Is there a reason for one operator deciding ‘none shall travel’ whereas another acknowledges that Boxing Day is quite a busy day for visiting relative, shopping, football etc?
14  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Delay / Repay - discussion on cancellations on: July 30, 2023, 00:57:00
Well that’s kind of my original point - from a customer service perspective why is a delay of 15/30mins worse than not being able to travel at all ?

Is there any negative outcome for a TOC (Train Operating Company) in cancelling services/connections, thereby removing the chance of having to repay for delayed customers?
15  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Delay / Repay - discussion on cancellations on: July 29, 2023, 11:08:16
At the risk of going further down a rabbit hole and acknowledging that Admins may wish to move this part of the conversation to a Delay/Repay topic I do find this very interesting and in particular the unintended outcomes for TOCs (Train Operating Company) and passengers

In my opinion there should be a method of compensation for a passenger who is unable to reach their destination due to cancellations as well as for those who got waylaid enroute.  Arguably what is more annoying - arriving 15mins late or not being able to get there at all?

There have been many times in my commuting career that I have arrived at the station and found disruption so severe that I have quit and gone home. Does Delay/Repay not cover that eventuality at all?  A cancellation is arguably a very long delay.

If GWR (Great Western Railway) only pay out for delays and not cancellations then does this lead to the unintended outcome of TOCs cancelling more intermediate stops to try and arrive on time, albeit with fewer of the passengers who wanted to travel that day?  Certainly at Maidenhead I see a lot more ‘not stopping today’ services so is this a partial cause of that?
