Is it still just the two Classs 43 sets in the new GWR (Great Western Railway) livery? There were two green power cars sandwiching a rake of old-scheme FGW (First Great Western) carriages at Swindon earlier today.
362  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: September 10, 2016, 13:43:03
I wasn't poking fun at electrical safety - I spent a lot of my younger years working on live 3-phase and the fact I'm still here is a testimony to all the health and safety that was drilled into us. No the terminology just struck me as amusing - that's why I put the smiley in!

Let me get this right: a Form B allows a Level A to issue a Form C? Or have I slipped into an episode of Yes MinisterCheesy

Huh Would that be Westbourne Park or Ladbroke Grove?

Or how about Ladbroke Park  Wink

See what the commuting is doing to my brain?  Grin

It seemed to be a combination of things, starting with the fatality at Tilehurst earlier in the day and then being compounded by points issues. I was on 1C23 (17:00 to Bristol Temple Meads) which left P9 on time, stopped at Westbourne Grove, the driver changed ends, brought it back into the bay, changed ends again and then eventually left on a different path. Mind you, I had to smile at the legion of people who leapt off to seek other services when we returned to PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains): we were definitely first back out and there were then seats to spare!

10. - could be Milton Keynes Central?

Yes but don't you have a sneaking suspicion that those with the years of experience may sometimes be overridden by that young buck from Marketing who thinks that cream is a good fabric colour because it "complements our new brand identity so nicely..."?

Brings to mind an exchange from Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones's first collaboration; a radio play entitled Tales From The Crypt which featured some Cornish characters chatting:

I've been up country.

What? Truro?

No, no. London.

London? Where's that then?

 Grin
370  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Derailment of empty passenger train at Paddington causes major disruption - 16 June 2016 on: August 19, 2016, 10:50:11
I suspect a large proportion of our esteemed media will skip the fact that Paddington could be perceived to be over-busy and focus on the fasting issue, as the Standard has. I think I could write the Daily Wail headline for you now.  Sad
371  All across the Great Western territory / Looking forward - after Coronavirus to 2045 / Re: Facing in the opposite direction? on: August 17, 2016, 06:21:05
Is it a mistake, or is it clever because it signifies 'back'? I can't decide.

Also - puts pedant's hat on - wasn't the reversed logo on the port side of Sealink ferries, not starboard...?
372  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Where did I go - 2012? on: August 11, 2016, 16:53:18
Not stations but I spied Barmouth Bridge and the Crofton engine house.

Now why did that immediately make me think, "There's a dent in the car, Ted..."?

Assuming metros journalistic skills can be trusted of course

I'd imagine in this case - given the circumstances and the potential insensitivity - it would have gone to the lawyers and the duty editor before getting to print.

Interesting that deep-fat fryers don't appear on the list: one would imagine them to be a frequent culprit.
