A delightfully twee and quaint British Transport Films short from 1959. Music's rather jolly as well:

Nice to see not all the lines travelled in this film are no longer. I went over one of those swing bridges in Norfolk just last year...

Oh, and not a hi-viz or other PPE in sight.

Although quite how a "Carol Vodermans Mini Skirt is too short" came up in the same recommended videos section is beyond me! Shocked

The BTF Film archive is a real treasure chest I've seen the diesel one and lots of others including some of the staff instructional ones when I was on BR^▸ .

In fact most of the Big Four had film units bfore the war along with the GPO^‡.

During the war they combined into the Ministry Of information and produced propaganda films. After the war was most nationalised industries had film units.

We have a chap in club who is a cine buff who collects 16mm film on which most were produced. He has an aweful lot. They are real insights into life in the 30s to 60s.

One I remember was on the lost art of single line working, showing the various ways of setting it up and the use of the different forms. one of the crosovers was at Avril (April?) Hammer. All the passenger trains were hauled by Standards so could be a lot of places. Then they did a goods train, and a S&D^▸ 7F comes in to view.

Of course no yellow jackets or hard hats.

Avril Hammer equals Shepton Mallet on the S&D
