Shock: The scene in North SheenA woman has died after being hit by a train near at North Sheen this afternoon.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was hit by the Waterloo to Windsor service shortly before 4pm today, November 6.
British Transport Police were called to the scene at 3.53pm and the Metropolitan Police and Ambulance Service also attended.
A spokesman from British Transport Police said: ^Medics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. Inquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the woman and inform her family.^
Bus routes 371, 493 and R70 are subject to diversion and Manor Road, North Sheen, is closed in both directions, with drivers advised to use alternative routes. Delays of 40 minutes have been reported on the rail network.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: ^We were called to Manor Road at 3.55pm to reports of a person under a train. Sadly the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.^
David Rogers, who was on the train travelling at the front of the first carriage, said he heard a loud bang. He said: ^We were going slowly and there was a big bang. I thought we had hit a concrete block. We then started slowing down and went over the level crossing before stopping. The poor young guard was nearly in tears when she announced we had hit somebody.^
British Transport Police told the passengers they had to wait for a replacement driver and the service would terminate at Richmond.
Mr Rogers said: ^A few of the usual selfish people were asking when we're going to move.^
