As my regular readers will know, I do tend to scour the local press for items of (hopefully) some interest, and I'm generally fairly relaxed about the standard of journalism I find - unless it's glaringly wrong.

Here's an example, from This is the West Country:

Quote
UPDATE: Train delays at Bridgwater station cleared

stock image

Trains are running normally between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton after a broken down train in Bridgwater caused delays of up to one hour.

The train was stuck on the Bridgwater line, but it has now been cleared. Keep up-to-date with the Twitter hashtag #Bridgwater.

Services affected included; Cheltenham Spa, Bristol Parkway, Bristol Temple Meads, Bridgwater, Taunton, Tiverton Parkway and Exeter St Davids; also Cardiff Central, Newport, Patchway, Bristol Temple Meads, Nailsea and Blackwell, Yatton, Worle, Weston-super-Mare, Bridgwater and Taunton.

To be fair, it's described as a 'stock image' - but then, why use it at all?  It certainly isn't Bridgwater station: actually, where is it?

(and it's Nailsea & Backwell, not Blackwell ... )  Roll Eyes

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Well, it's in Chiltern land. I'll take a punt on High Wycombe.

I believe that's not High Wycombe.

Not 100% sure on where it is though.

My initial reaction was the bay platform at Leamington, but for that to be correct there would have had to be track through the platform in the foreground. So carry on guessing!

One of the "best" uses of the a stock photo I saw was in the FGW (First Great Western) magazine a few years back where they used what I think was Southern Railway Pacific. No not a Spamcan but the US Southern!

Also Christian Wolmar's book on US Railways "The Great Railway Revolution" has a Canadian loco on the front! It's a good read and shows just how influentail railways were in forming the US.

Also can anyone tell me why there is B1 on the mural btween platforms 12 and 13/14 at Padd,

In a similar vein, I read an article in Amtrak's on-board magazine that was illustrated with an old interior shot of unrefurbished first class in an FGW (First Great Western) HST (High Speed Train)...

There was also the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) article on HLOS (High Level Output Specification) illustrated with a heritage DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) at the Glos/Warks railway!

Risborough over the Aylesbury bay?

That was my thought as well; and  http://goo.gl/maps/RG88W  confirms it.

Many thanks for your comments and suggestions, guys - and I agree, that picture is actually Risborough: nowhere near Bridgwater!  Wink Cheesy Grin

I would be very surprised if this magnificent piece or pointwork was between Hastings and Tunbridge Wells.  Location, anyone?

"Rail problems on Hastings to Tunbridge Wells line" ...

Yes, but the reason for the "electrical supply problems" is at least obvious - no third rail has been installed. Smiley

That picture has been used by kentnews.co.uk numerous times this year.

A Google search brings up five other stories with the same picture.
