Here's another example, from The Post (Bristol):

Quote
Delays on all trains through Bristol Temple Meads

All train routes through Bristol Temple Meads will be delayed by at least 20 minutes due to a signalling problem until further notice. (From 3.30pm)

Train operators CrossCountry and First Great Western services are affected by the signalling problem at Stapleton, according to National Rail.

Does anyone else recognise that picture?  It's been used before, and it has nothing to do with today's problem affecting Bristol Temple Meads.  Wink

That's the woman who decided to walk home from Bristol Parkway to Cheltenham using the most direct route - along the railway!

Reminds me of Judy Geeson and Rod Steiger in the scene in 'Three into Two won't go'.  I expect his missus asked him why the brakes were 'screeched on'.

Always willing to give credit, the BEP has actually sent someone to take a photo in the vicinity of what the article was about.  Perhaps they are reading FGWCS?

From the Mid Devon Gazette:

Quote
Rail improvements concern as FGW (First Great Western)'s contract is extended

Rail services to and from Exeter have been thrown into limbo after ministers scrapped the delayed competition to run trains on the Great Western mainline.

Yes, I see the relevance of a picture of TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System) in this instance...

We've all heard the rumours, but here's proof that Boris really does want to take over more and more train services, including those to Lancaster - which appears to have had a makeover since my last visit there!

Classic!

Virgin Trains, which operates Lancaster station, is also looking forward to the operational benefits the improvements will bring.

Just how long is the WCML (West Coast Main Line) franchise extension / are the improvements being moved forward very much more rapidly than the typical rail industry works / is this a scheme that's been on the cards for years?  (Serious question, even though asked in our more humerous area!)

One of my earliest railway memories is on a rail trip with an uncle and aunt from Oldham Mumps (by steam) to Morecambe, via Lancaster. I don't remember a gherkin.

The return of an old favourite - from The Herald (Plymouth):

Quote
Plymouth train services suspended for engineering works

First Great Western and Crosscountry services are suspended through Plymouth this morning for engineering works.

Buses are being laid on as services are out between Plymouth & St Budeaux Victoria Rd, Plymouth & Liskeard, Plymouth & St Austell and Plymouth & Penzance.

... which has prompted some amusing comment from the Herald's own readership.  Grin

Are they going to do a new article for each day? These engineering works are until Thursday. Would have thought it be better if the article said that?

Either the Mount Hotel and the North Euston have had a makeover, and the Wyre has been widened, or the Gherkin has gone to Flootweed.

I agree it would be more helpful if the Herald gave the full story. Although I have to say I think the FGW (First Great Western) website could have made more of it. It does appear in the timetable changes section but a message on the front page would do no harm.
