Yes, both Penryn and Barnstaple are to benefit from ... err, four tracks, now ... if those particular press article illustrations are to be believed. Roll Eyes

Indeed: having met him, I can assure you that forum member 'Four Track, Now!' is a very congenial fellow, with a remarkably dry sense of humour!  Wink

And Chris, my doctor says it's congenital.

How do you plead:

I replied: "Ignorance"

Upon discovering that was not an acceptable answer I changed my plea to: "Insanity" Grin

They wouldn't accept my plea of insanity, so I entered a plea of "Refrigerator". That was on a charge of causing thread drift.

possibly a little harsh, BNM. The driver could be pointing out to passengers that there are trains to all the areas mentioned in the story.

From an article in "Breaking Travel News":

Quote

Great Western Railway clock is lovingly restored

A 19th century Great Western Railway clock has been lovingly restored to its former glory by Network Rail after it stopped working two years ago.

The GWR (Great Western Railway) clock, which dates back to 1852, is a double-aspect clock and keeps time at the historic Severn Bridge Junction signal box in Shrewsbury ^ the largest mechanical signal box in the world.

I'm not much of an expert on these things but I reckon that's a train, not a clock. I have a sneaking feeling that the photo may not have been taken in Shrewsbury either.

... and for those with an interest in the Great Western Railway clock at Shrewsbury, Network Rail have even provided a picture of it, in their press release:

I like the irony of this one:

Quote

BRITAIN'S RAILWAYS ^WORST IN EUROPE'

BRITAIN^S rail network was savaged yesterday as the worst in Europe in a damning report branding it the ^Great Train Robbery^.

The network was rubbished in a study by the TUC and Manchester University^s Centre for Research on Social-Cultural Change, which claimed that privatisation of British Rail had not worked.

(see http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/319204/)

Now then, which evil TOC (Train Operating Company) operates this train?

I receive a (free) IPad news cutting service. News of a new director of South West Trains based at Waterloo is accompanied by a UP 'War Bonnet' hauled freight - probably somewhere in the San Bernadino mountains of California.

I believe this is the article you are referring to, rogerpatenall:

From Travel and Tour World:

Quote

The pictured loco is actually from Australia.

Thanks for the correction. Australia? It's just across the bay from California, really. Neighbours, if you avoid NZ.
