I'm no fan of First group, from what I see of First their Priorities are,

1, Big Profits,

2, More Profits,

3, Company Image,

4, Stakeholders,

5, Safety,

6, Customers,

7, Staff.

Of course after 7 years or more working for First most staff will have a loyalty towards FGW (First Great Western), but here is something to think about, this is for First staff to think upon but the customers of FGW may wish to comment.

In almost every booking on point, depot, office and station, it also appears to be a general First poster so would appear to apply to FTP (File Transfer Protocol), FSR (First Scot Rail), and First bus there is an A4 size poster, it reads,

Harassment, Discrimination, Safety, Security or any other matter, contact this help line.

So First is a caring employer, well it would be, but this is the Number to ring

0800 234 5291

Go on try to get through. NO SUCH NUMBER.

That's really useful if a person is in real need.
I'd love to hear from FGW management on this one.

Shameful

According to First Group websites staff should use Tel: +44 (0)1224 650100 should they wish to raise any of the above concerns. A google search reveals this however to be their head office switchboard.

DS - it's not a number or poster that sounds familiar to me. Let me know if you want me to do some digging though.

I'm not aware of many private companies whose #1 priority is not profit?

Business is business after all. Like anything else in this country, it is my choice if I use FGW (First Great Western)/my local pub/supermarket etc. so it is up to them to find the right balance.

No, you're opening posts have made that pretty clear!

Regarding the poster, like Ollie, it's not one I remember seeing - and a quick check of two booking on points and I can't see one up at either.

There's some (very) recent posters up about bullying, harassment and so on but no phone number - just advice to speak to you manager, HR (Human Resources) department or union rep.

All staff receive a Care First booklet and quick reference card offering assistance should they need it, and a different telephone number to the one you refer to that is presumably still valid.  I see no need to reprint it here though.

In addition, drivers receive booklets giving advice on how to handle a fatality, which is company and union endorsed.

My experience is that FGW (First Great Western) care about their staff far more than many companies, though in general all large companies (both in and out of the railway industry) have bucked their ideas up in that regard over the last few years.

I can only assume this poster you speak of is an old one that might still be displayed due to the local manager being responsible not removing it from the notice board?

I've seen it in a couple of places at EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains), but not had cause to use it.  I think there is an email address on it too.  It did look quite old to be fair, not that that should matter though.

I've seen said poster in a few locations, have tired the Number which doesn't work.

There is an Email address, which I didn't try, but Email is NOT confidential, and when someone plucks up courage to report Bullying (or whatever) and can't get through on a helpline, shameful.

What would happen if the Samaritains weren't avaliable when somebody called?
