I'm on 1A74, 0553 PLY» (Plymouth - next trains) - PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains), scheduled non-stop at Totnes.  We've just been routed via the platform line, rather than the through line, and didn't stop.

Idle question....why?

thanks eightf, points failure would be a plausable reason.  Both previous services stopped.

didn't spot anything stopped on the through line, but it was very dark!

You went through the platform because what is known as 'through routes' was still in use following the signalling failure at Totnes on 3rd January - where no trains ran between Plymouth and Newton Abbot between 10am and 3pm ish.

Through routes basically means that signals and points are fixed into the routes via the platform lines, if the signalling is not able to operate as normal for whatever reason. This system was unable to be implemented at first because of lightning strikes on signalling equipment, however when it was eventually implemented it was left like it for around a week afterwards. Whether this was down to more work needed to be done to restore full signalling, i'm not totally sure.

Presumably the facing points were clipped and scotched. Padlocked as well?
