Train journeys have long been blighted by screaming children and mobile phone conversations. Now passengers have one more distraction to endure, after First Great Western struck a deal allowing Hewlett-Packard (HP) to hawk its wares on the 8.23 to Cardiff.

The company ^ dubbed ^Worst Great Western^ by critics - agreed to let HP sponsor trains earlier this summer.

The deal initially saw First Great Western cover two trains in HP adverts, on the route from London Paddington to Wales. But while passengers may not notice the adverts, they might find it harder to ignore HP^s ^brand ambassadors^.

FYI^▸ (for your information), the ambassadors were initially on the trains back when the Power Cars were first branded, but haven't seen them for a while.

That struck me as a rather gratuitous, unnecessary and outdated insult: I expected rather better from a professional press organization.

When I originally quoted, it struck me that way too, and I wondered whether to snip it.   However, I felt that would remove something from the 'feel' of what I was quoting, and at initial posts of news articles I'm unusually disinclined to give a personal opinion which that would have done.

I noticed a few HP reps on trains when the two power cars were first outshopped in their white livery but I didn't see much positive reaction from passengers as they passed through the coaches.

I very pleasant HP chap gave me a tablet to try.   It crashed as soon as I touched it.
