So I got given a luke warm paninni with barely melted cheese that tasted sodding awful.

IMHO (in my humble opinion), they do when even heated correctly!

Yes, I agree, he should have processed the orders sequentially.

The CrossCountry HST (High Speed Train) services now have a restaurant car of sorts. No pre-ordering required. Just pop to Coach B and take a seat.

Thanks for that info BNM.  The menu looks entirely unimaginative and plain: just the way I like it.  Grin

Not necessarily what I would have suggested ... and yet ... if I' travelling long distance it would probably be exactly right if that quality was even reasonable or better, and provided that it didn't mean I had an extra game of "find the seat" to play halfway on my journey.

The menu has beans in the picture but not in the description for breakfast. So does the breakfast come with beans or not?

CrossCountry have revamped their catering offer again.

The pre-order paid for hot meals have gone. Instead, there are now complimentary hot meals for 1st Class ticket holders travelling over 90 minutes on selected services. Examples include a full all day breakfast, chilli con carne and a vegetable biryani.

On shorter journeys over 50 minutes on weekdays, and on journeys over 90 minutes at weekends, there is a selection of hot and cold sandwiches to chose from.

Complimentary snacks (porridge, pastries, cakes, kettle chips, biscuits) and non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks are available every day to all 1st Class passengers. Alcoholic beverages at additional charge.

All served at seat subject to availability.

Standard Class passengers on CrossCountry continue to have a trolley service. Limited food items beyond snacks and confectionary. Just a couple of paid for hot breakfast items or cold sandwiches.

Links:

1st Class drinks and snacks
1st Class shorter/weekend journeys complimentary food
1st Class longer weekday journeys complimentary hot meals

Anyone travelling 1st Class for less than 50/90 minutes can purchase the advertised hot/cold sandwiches or meals. Although I wouldn't try ordering a vegetable biryani on a trip from Bristol Temple Meads to Bristol Parkway!

For those in the cheap (relatively) seats:

Indeed not. You've quoted a post from December 2015. Things have changed on CrossCountry since then. See post #26.  Wink

Surprised to see a catering trolley service on morning Cornwall trains as I thought CrossCountry had abandoned all catering in the county?
