Hi,

I have a few questions about the "by bus" to helston link as listed on the national rail site.

1 - Is the bus actually the Fist devon&cornwall number 37 - the timing's listed on nationalrail seem to be the same as the number 37 bus, except for after 1st june (nationalrail has them as the same, the first bus site has some big differences from this wekeend)

Also - Several websites say the service is the "truronian" t34, as far as I can see, they have gone under now.

2 - Where abouts in Helston can I board or alight with a train ticket listed as to or from helston?

3 - does a through ticket have to be used on the helston-redruth bus, or could I use it on the helston-camborne bus?

and finally - I'm visiting flambards, and will have an hours spare in either redruth or helston - if I want to pop somewhere for a coffee- which would give the best choice?

Thanks

Hi,

1) Yes, it's the 37.  It used to be the T34
2) You can get off pretty much anywhere in the town, I think. The bus calls at Sainsbury's/Flambards, so you can use it to go straight there.
3) don't think you can use it for the Camborne bus - which takes longer and is not as convenient for a rail connection anyway.
4) pass.

Welcome to the forum caffeine_demon.  Smiley

I concur with Andy's answers. Take the bus times from the First Devon & Cornwall website. I wouldn't trust National Rail Enquiries to be accurate. They make enough mistakes with rail related matters!

I'd also agree that the through Rail/Bus ticket to/from Helston can only be used on First's service 37 to/from Redruth station.

Regarding Truronian, First bought them about 7-8 years ago. All first time tables are changing in Cornwall from Sunday 1st June, Redruth to Helston bus service is doubling in frequency, and uses a mixture of single and double deckers.

If possible I would recommend on the Redruth to helston leg sitting drivers side upstairs if you get a double decker, the views leaving Redruth are incredible out towards the coast from the road up towards the village of four lanes from Redruth.

Regarding coffee shops, I live 250 yards from Redruth station, and I recommend this place as the best in Redruth, it is a few yards from the railway bridge at the Camborne side of Redruth station.

Thanks for the advice - I'll probably get one of the cornwall rover tickets.
