From ITV News:

Quote
Dozens of delayed and cancelled trains at Waterloo

There are still long delays at Waterloo Station this evening, after a man was seen on the tracks. The station came to a standstill during this evening's rush while British Transport Police led him off the line.

South West Trains has confirmed trains are now moving out of Waterloo, following a trespasser on the tracks - but the rail company is warning of major delays on all services until at least 10pm.

Including several pictures of the Gentleman in question...

Nope it probably doesn't. Not after the week passengers using Waterloo and staff have just had this was the last thing they needed on a Friday evening.

He was incredibly lucky to get that far down the line and across several tracks (there are photos of him on Twitter in different places) without coming into contact with the third rail.

I would like to think I could be generous as say the guy has a metal illness of some sort in which case I cannot condemn him; if he is spaced out on illegal substances (or just drunk) then he needs to be dealt with, if he was just out to cause a nuisance then lock him up for a few months

It would indeed appear that this chap had mental health issues. After arrest, he was detained under the Mental Health Act.

From The Telegraph:

Services delayed by up to an hour from Waterloo after track trespasser

Thousands of passengers are facing delays at London Waterloo station after a man walked on to the tracks.

The man was seen on the tracks around 4.40pm when the British Transport Police were called.

Within 40 minutes, the man was secured and was taken to hospital after being detained under the Mental Health Act.

Initially all trains in and out of Waterloo had to be stopped but within an hour of the incident, services began to run but South West trains said on Twitter they expected delays until 10pm on Friday.

National Rail said on their website: ^A trespass incident at London Waterloo has prevented trains moving in and out of this station this evening. All lines have now reopened and trains are on the move. Delays of up to 60 minutes can be expected until 22:00.^

British Transport Police said they arrived at the station where London Ambulance and London Fire Brigade also attended.

South West trains said they would be reducing the number of services running to and from Waterloo and South West Trains passengers could use First Capital Connect, First Great Western, London Overground, Southern, London Buses and London Underground services via any reasonable route.

Having a Mental Health condition myself. I was very conscious of this being a reason behind the incident. Embarrassed Lips sealed However without any information supporting and discounting that theory at the time of posting; other than a personal view. I chose not to speculate.

That being said, I stick by my comment on selfishness... Having seen with my own eyes what happens when... err... lets move on Lips sealed

Hopefully he will get the help he needs now. It is very fortunate and I personally am glad that this didn't turn into something much more serious. Looking at some of these pictures he had quite the audience... Which doesn't bear thinking about Sad

Hope he gets the help he needs as he was very fortunate to come away from what he did alive when you think of how many trains come in and out of Waterloo every minute and with third rail everywhere.
