Can anyone point me in the right direction please for more information about the Malago Vale Colliery and (particularly) the Brickworks? I'm not having a great deal of luck finding out too much about it, other than that it was located in the Bedminster district of Bristol; the colliery itself was possibly also known as the West Street pit and /or the Red Cow pit, and it was possibly "situated where the old Colodense building was" (which doesn't help me a great deal, as not being a local I don't know who or what Colodense was...)

As I say, it was particularly the associated brickworks that I'm interested in. From what I can make out, the brickworks straddled the main GWR (Great Western Railway) line and was located north of the Malago Vale carriage sidings. According to the Bristol Railway Archive wiki, which has surprisingly little to say on the subject, the colliery closed in 1897 - but did the brickworks carry on beyond that? Anyone know?

Brickworks url=http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=PFCIAwAAQBAJ&pg=PT61&lpg=PT61&dq=Malago+Vale+brickworks&source=bl&ots=suG1n_YOlH&sig=KOX23NtNEhmB0lujJqDVQSjBSn4&hl=en&sa=X&ei=DXbGU4jlCrOI7AagrIHgAw&ved=0CCYQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=Malago%20Vale%20brickworks&f=false]"Out of use by July 1918"[/url]

Also apparently known as the Argus Pit, google (Use the .co.uk version) is your friend! Try "Malago Vale Colliery" and "Malago Vale Brickworks"

Thanks, Chris - definitely helpful. Closure of the brickworks in 1918 makes a lot of sense in the context of what little I knew already.

I'd personally take issue with you over whether or not Google is anyone's "friend" - they're a corporation, and their primary goal is simply to acquire as much of the world's money as possible - but nevertheless, a point well made. I should really have dug deeper into the web myself rather than trouble the good people of this forum with my question, for which I humbly aplogise.
