Due to a person hit by a train between Cardiff Central and Bridgend all lines are closed.
Impact:
Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 30 mins. An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.

These are happening _way_ too often.

Thoughts with those affected, as always.

From Wales Online:

Person dies after being hit by train between Bridgend and Cardiff Central
Services were delayed and diverted for several hours after the incident which occurred on Thursday morning

A person has died after being hit by a train near St Georges between Bridgend and Cardiff Central.

I totally agree with the fact this is happening far to often and endorse the sympathies expressed earlier

Although not in FGW (First Great Western) territory I believe there was a "person on the track" incident on the northern line near kings cross today (Thursday 25th September)

Just found a news article confirming the above http://www.london24.com/news/transport/king_s_cross_tube_station_closed_after_person_on_track_1_3783112#3

There was also an incident at Finsbury Park yesterday - thankfully, not another fatality.

From the London Evening Standard:

Quote
Woman survives after being hit by train at Finsbury Park station

A woman has survived after she was hit by a tube train in Finsbury Park station.

Fire crews and the London Ambulance Service rescued her from the Victoria line tracks at 12.20pm this afternoon.

She was treated at the scene before she was taken to hospital.

British Transport Police have described her injuries as not ^life-threatening.^ A spokesman said: ^We were called to Finsbury Park London Underground station at 12.20pm on Wednesday, September 24 following reports of a woman being hit by a train. Colleagues from London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also attended. A woman was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.^

BTP (British Transport Police) said the woman is being detained at hospital under the Mental Health Act.

The station was closed with Victoria and Piccadilly Line services part suspended for an hour causing problems for commuters. The station has now fully opened with some minor delays affecting travellers.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

These are happening _way_ too often.

From looking around various news sites I have found reports of 11 fatalities in the last four days.  That is an awful lot of families, relatives, friends and railway staff directly affected and many more involved on the periphery of the incidents.

I can't see that there is anything at all the railways can do to prevent this, I think if someone is determined enough they will get on the tracks somehow - Slough does seem to have been a bit of a "hot spot" recently though.

This stretch of railway in S.Wales also seems to be a bit of a hotspot - I can think of at least 4 or 5 fatalities, mainly suicides, in the past year or so. I can see a number of reasons why this might be, but do not wish to discuss publicly for obvious reasons...
