Man killed after being struck by a train at Baglan Railway Station
A man has been killed after being struck by a train in Baglan.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: ^We received a called at 7.38pm this evening following reports of a person being hit by a train at Baglan Railway Station. Officers from South Wales Police attended the scene with the ambulance service. We can confirm we have located a deceased male at the scene. The British Transport Police are now at the scene dealing with the incident.^
Mid and West Fire and Rescue Service were also at the scene, along with the Welsh Ambulance Service.
At 7.39pm train operator First Great Western tweeted that services were unable to run between Port Talbot Parkway and Neath train stations.
The line was closed for a number of hours while emergency services attend, and no trains were expected to run between Port Talbot and Swansea until at least 10pm.
A statement from National Rail read at the time of tragedy: "A person has been hit by a train between Port Talbot and Swansea which means that that trains are unable to run between these stations. Arriva Trains Wales are are sourcing buses to run between Swansea and Port Talbot which are expected to be in place from 20:45. First Great Western are sourcing buses to run between Swansea and Cardiff Central. There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 22:00."
At around 11pm, First Great Western reported a second incident in Llanharan which affected the late night services between Cardiff and Swansea.
