Trains disruption now set to continue into tomorrow on Swansea to Neath line
Engineering work which over-ran has been blamed for the problems.It could be 6am tomorrow before problems on the railways near Swansea come to an end.This is the latest update from First Great Western after engineering works on the line over-ran. Passengers have faced a day of disruption on the trains today.
The problems began early on Sunday morning. Engineering works were taking place on the line between Swansea and Neath overnight. But when equipment broke down, the job could not be completed in time.
It has left the line coming into Swansea blocked and meant delays and the threat of some cancellations. Passengers have been warned to expect delays of 30 minutes or more.
"This is due to a failure with equipment used within engineering works that have taken place overnight between Swansea and Neath," said a spokesman for First Great Western. "Due to this, the line into Swansea is blocked and trains are required to be routed on to the other, available line. Works will now take place overnight tonight with the aim to have both lines in operation by 06:00 11/05/14. Congestion and delays are to be expected until then."
Arriva Trains Wales is accepting First Great Western tickets to try to get people to their destinations as quickly as possible.
A spokesman for Network Rail apologised to anyone affected by the problems.
