Hmm.  Fair play to the chap representing Isambard Kingdom Brunel - but wasn't he about a foot shorter - just over five foot tall - that's why he chose to wear those high stovepipe hats to, err, raise his profile?  Wink

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

As Graham says very well organised and a nice friendly spirit among those walking over, all taking care to avoid being in other people's shots while pictures were being taken.

An unforgettable experience.

Agree completely. Really good organisation. I'd suggest that Network Rail employ Saltash Lions Club to manage the electrification.

Meanwhile, here's some pictures of the check-in at Saltash Station, of Network Rail's Tim giving the 06:50 group their health and safety briefing, and of them setting off.

We came back on the ferry. And were then enticed by the 'Canadian Breakfast' on offer across the road.

For anybody who doesn't know that is the single to double track connection Electro-Hydraulic Clamplock operated point end at the Saltash end of the bridge (Plymouth Panel 270 Points) Wink

... and from the position of the nameplate, the normal lie of the points leads to the left. Normally closed blade is nearest to the plate.
