The real loser here seems to be the 16:30 from BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains). Stuck outside Chippenham with a freight train right up it's rear behind it.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

I'm puzzled as to why the 1700 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) to BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains) was terminated at SWI» (Swindon - next trains), but then ran ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) along it's normal route around 20 mins later.  Apart from the fact that it was travelling in the opposite direction, normal practice would have been to divert it via Hullavington if the usual route was unavailable. Especially as the 1630 ex PAD passed in the same direction 10 minutes earlier without delay.

Kink in the rail.
Happened to be on the Ill-fated 16:30 from BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI)) last night - Kink in the rail was the given reason, but I didnt detect it being any kinker than normal when we did finally get moving.

Handled well by train staff I thought - plenty of announcing / walking thru the train / free water - coffee - tea ; would have been nice to have had a little more info about what the process was (presuably someone needed to do an inspection & it just took time to get out there) but I guess they were as much in the dark as we were.
