Hello everyone,
This is my first post here but I'm sure I'm going to have a few more questions in the next few weeks.
I'm trying to find out who does the upholstery manufacture of the seats for FGW (First Great Western)/GWR (Great Western Railway)? I'm particularly interested in the textile part of this.  I'm hoping this is done in the UK (United Kingdom) but I fear it may be done abroad. Does anyone have an ideas? thanks

I don't know the answer to your question on the HST (High Speed Train) - but I have come across a "where are the British Contracts for IEP (Intercity Express Program / Project.)" page - at http://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/hitachirail-eu/images/uk-based-suppliers-for-class-800-801-trains-for-iep-374714 . It lists interior design in the UK (United Kingdom), but not the furnishings ...

Many of the HST refits are done at Kilmarnock (Wabtec) and they're more likely to know the material sources than FGW (First Great Western) - a subcontract.  But then even when you find where the cloth is woven, the raw material may come from a further location / country ...

Try looking up Moquette and Houldsworths (a Huddersfield woollen mill).

It might surprise you how many of the world's PT (bus and rail) passengers sit on Yorkshire cloth.

It might surprise you how many of the world's PT (bus and rail) passengers sit on Yorkshire cloth.

For the record, it's 'Holdsworth' (without the 'u') - except they're Camira now, and they manufacture abroad as well as in Yorkshire.

Possibly worth following up the late Enid Marx. She apparently had great difficulty in getting her moquette design actually made. The manufacturers knew better than a woman!

Marion Dorn was the partner of Edward McKnight Kauffer, a prolific poster desigener who did a lot of work for London Transport. Buy a copy from the LT Museum shop?

With so much readable on the forum (including this thread) we have no way of knowing.  In many ways we are / were / have been a public service at the Coffee Shop in answering questions, and it's actually far from universal (  Grin ) to get back to someone from such a "service" and say "thank you for answering" - very likely the originator of the thread did read the answer.

I never cease to be amazed at just how much we (and I personally) am heard ... almost personally embarrassing at times.  I have a very poor memory for names and faces and owe an apology to a number of senior people ... thinking especially of last Saturday.  That also brought home to me just how many dedicated, committed people there are out there, even at the weekend in the middle of Salisbury Plain.
