I think I am way out of touch we advances in the different ways of "presenting" a railway ticket but when I was on an early services from Thatcham to Reading a customer - when asked for her ticket - showed the TM‡(resolve) (or RPI▸ (Revenue Protection Inspector (or Retail Price Index, depending on the context))) their mobile phone. I've googled this but is it now possible to totally electronically buy and present a ticket?

It is indeed, using the GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) app. Advance Purchase tickets only at the moment.
