I recently added my new Visa card (which works fine everywhere else, on and offline) to my account on the GWR (Great Western Railway) website and seem to be having problems buying tickets, getting a "we are unable to complete your order" type message on the completion screen - is anyone else experiencing this?

I haven't changed cards recently, but I bought tickets online last night without problems. Try deleting the card then adding it again. I did this in another context, with success. Whether I made a mistake first time, I shall never know.

Don't add it in a separate action, but do so while purchasing tickets - you get a tick box (if I remember correctly) to ask if you want to store the card....

gwr.com has been offline since around 0700 this morning, 1st May 2018.

The twitter team have been saying throughout the day that it'll be fixed 'in a couple of hours'. A fairly typical railway response to a service problem.

Still offline as I type at 2345.

Perhaps uploading the new timetables was too much for the website to cope with. Either that or more servers than usual requiring repairs.  Roll Eyes

Can't even find the server this morning. Advise for customers:

For now it is unclear when the website and the app will be working again.

A Great Western Railway spokesman told the Sun Online: “We appreciate customers’ patience as we work to resolve a technical issue with our website.

"Our teams are working hard to get the site running normally as quickly as possible, but in the meantime customers can use http://www.southwesternrailway.com to check journeys and buy tickets."

Customers who have booked their tickets through the app can travel by showing their email confirmation or booking reference number until it is back up and running.

The website and app seem to be working now.

The website has the new timetables.

Not for me ... could be a DNS (Domain name service) cache timeout.   Wonder how long their TTL (Time to Live) record is.

Nor me. Still getting the message DNS (Domain name service) or IP address cannot be found.

The website does appear to be back up now.

No front page acknowledgement or apology for being offline for 24 hours though.  Roll Eyes
