It was an auction prize donated by GWR (Great Western Railway) which raised over ^20,000 for charity I understand.

It will be a special set with two 407xx kitchens in the rake to serve 70 four course meals apparently.

Couldn't they have found a better destination than Frome? Odd that....

I don't think they leave the train to be honest.  It is just a convenient place to reverse the train to return to London and the right distance to get the meal served.

Back via Bristol Parkway needs a reversal?

But I take your point....

Not at Bristol Parkway - but you have to reverse at Frome or you end up in Devon.

Yeah, good point - so how (brain fade) do you get from Frome to Bristol Parkway? Via Westbury & Temple Meads I guess?

Yep, so it still begs the question  of running Westbury/Frome rather than going Westbury/BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) as above. Unless they thought they'd need that shortish extra time to serve?

Haven't got the time to look but I suspect platforms at Westbury might be at a premium.  You can sit at Frome and not interfere with the timetabled service as it arrives just after a Weymouth service has gone and there isn't another one for two hours.

It's probably best that we don't let member 'broadgage' hear about such a service ...  Roll Eyes Shocked Tongue Grin

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Correct, it was two first class carriages sandwiched between two buffet cars with four standards making up the rest.

That's probably a description of broadgage's 'perfect train journey'.  Wink Cheesy Grin
