As the transport minister reminded the Western Super Mayor (© Bignosemac), he has the power to do like London for buses. Not, it would seem, the enthusiasm.

£56.9m funding boost for metrobus
More than £56m investment has been approved by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about)) and the West of England Joint Committee to extend the metrobus network to help more people get on board with bus travel.

The Cribbs Patchway metrobus extension will link the Bristol Parkway railway station and The Mall bus via the Cribbs Patchway New Neighbourhood re-development site at the former Filton Airfield, the Horizon 38 development site, Gipsy Patch Lane and Hatchet Road.

The scheme includes the replacement of the existing railway bridge on Gipsy Patch Lane with a new wider bridge to relieve the current pinch point, the extension and signalisation of the San Andreas roundabout to allow a new bus only arm to link to the Cribbs Patchway New Neighbourhood, and bus lanes on Gipsy Patch Lane. New metrobus stops and walking & cycling infrastructure are also included.

[...]

At the meeting, the WECA Committee also agreed to allocate £300,000 to South Gloucestershire Council to co-fund the £670,000 package of works led by Great Western Railway to improve the bus/rail interchange at Bristol Parkway Station. The improvements will include new bus shelters for local bus services and new branded metrobus stops, including real time information, an electronic information point and off-bus ticket dispenser, changes to taxi and drop-off points and the remodelling of the station forecourt.

Oh good, another new road widening scheme.

Which exit for Torquay (and its famous palm tree)?  Grin

But I wouldn't be surprised if a fault was the origin of the name.

Though all I've found is this:

That's a surprising name. Is there a Krakatoa roundabout?

The Roundabouts of Cribbs Causeway (which, it has to be said, sound about as interesting as the Bridges of Madison County) have in some cases quirky features to help with their identification for, it has to be said, one roundabout can be very much like the next. The one at the junction of Lysander Road and Merlin Road, for example, has a conical form (see https://goo.gl/maps/552A8GqairXb2XBG8), whilst another at the junction of Highwood Road and what, as far as I can tell, is Unnamed Road, looks like... well I'll leave it to your imagination (see https://goo.gl/maps/2h26CPb83U3Zmp819). San Andreas Roundabout looked rather like a cheese-head screw, with the slot of the screw formed of a sort of craggy gorge - not entirely unlike parts of the San Andreas Fault. As is so often the way with these things, it has not been maintained and hence the slot is now filled with vegetation (see https://goo.gl/maps/YtH4AVcSAK9z7RJW7) so you'd be forgiven for wondering what inspired the name...

2 years late, £230 million over budget, barely a year old and now they want to scrap the Ring Road Bus Lane.

http://theweekin.co.uk/issue-582/

Why don't they screw WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about) for the dosh to build a flyover at this junction. NO, too easy and from Joe Public too, shows the incompetence of SGC.

See what you mean of the middle of those three links, without being offensive should it be labelled, 'ANNE SUMMERS ROUNDABOUT'.

It'll be interesting to see what impact this has - it seems likely that some of the congestion will be transferred to the M32 roundabout, but perhaps that will have the effect of spreading the pollution over a wider area and thus diluting it?

According to South Glos Council it is just the section of bus lane through the junction that will be opened up to all traffic - so not the whole ring road bus lane. They say the current arrangement is often blocked by other traffic, and that the new arrangements will improve journey times for buses.

As to whether WECA should be made to pay for a flyover: that sounds like a very 1969 solution to a 2019 problem. I would rather they spend my money on two tracks to Clifton Down, or 2tph to Portishead, or reopening the Thornbury branch... any of which you could probably do for the cost of a flyover.

Whereas the San Andreas Roundabout could be renamed Mohican Roundabout. Or Brazilian Roundabout to follow the trend.

In the free newsheet ;-

http://theweekin.co.uk/issue-582/

there is a letter from a P&R (Park and Ride) user about the Brislington P&R not stopping at Temple Meads no more.

I don't think the village idiot would be so stupid as to remove this stop on a well used service so near a public transport hub (Temple Mead Railway Station) and force the passengers to walk 1/2 mile back towards the town centre when on their inward journey they can still alight at the same stop.

Am I right in guessing that outbound passengers can get on an inbound bus at Temple Meads and go round the terminal loop? It would add about 20 minutes to their journey, but might be better than lugging heavy bags back to St Mary Redcliffe.

Looking at the final layout of this scheme, you can see that the MetroBus stop will eventually be inbound by the Grosvenor Hotel - with no outbound stop. This does, on the face of it, seem eccentric.
