And a fat lot of good to someone who came out of the station entrance and turned RIGHT ...as I did.

Which shows a lack of consideration by whoever positioned it for someone unfamiliar to the city. Pretty much everything in Truro involves turning left and so passing the map. But you and many others probably don't know that getting off a train in a new place, be it on business, tourist etc having never visited Truro before.
Locals don't think of this as it comes natural to them that everything is turn left!

I'm sure Truro is not the only location where signage is 'poor'.
Last year new signs where installed at Totnes, an initiative financed by Devon Council/Great Western I believe.
Alledgedly the cost was in region of £50,000.

So in these 'austerical times' perhaps station signage is not a priority.

It isn't ... Swindon has been identified as one of the place which doesn't exactly direct people who are arriving to the attractions that are there (no funny comments please).    Problem the other way too .. three people that I noticed (each travelling separately) failed to find the 17:05 hidden on platform 2 this evening.

Identification of an issue is the first step to doing something about it ...

Road signage in Swindon was pretty poor last time I got lost there! We were going to a family event in London and my brother decided it would be best for me to collect him at Swindon station rather than Bristol parkway. I'd have rather driven into Cardiff to collect him than Swindon in hindsight,
