Spring Bank Holiday, 27th to 29th May 2017

Due to major engineering works, TransWilts trains are running between Westbury and Chippenham this weekend with connecting rail replacement buses to Swindon.

On Saturday, from Westbury at 08:05 and every 2 hours to 18:05, then 21:05
On Sunday, from Westbury at about 09:05 and every 2 hours to 17:05, then 20:05
On Monday, from Westbury at 08:05 and every 2 hours to 18:05, then 20:05
All calling at Trowbridge 5 minutes and Melksham 15 minutes later.

On Saturday, from Chippenham at 08:40 and every 2 hours to 18:40, then 21:40
On Sunday, from Chippenham at about 09:40 then every 2 hours to 17:40 then 20:40
On Monday, from Chippenham at 08:40 and every 2 hours to 18:40, then 20:40
All trains calling at Melksham 10 minutes and Trowbridge 20 minutes after leaving Chippenham.

Full timings on online journey planners such as at http://www.gwr.com . I doubt whether the train will be the type pictured at Melksham, but there should be plenty of seats over the weekend and good connections at Trowbridge and Westbury.

As we lead into the Bank Holiday

Quote
15:12 Swindon to Westbury due 15:57
15:12 Swindon to Westbury due 15:57 will be cancelled.

This is due to a fault with the signalling system.

Further Information
Due to signalling problems in the Swindon area the Melksham single line is closed. Customers for Melksham are requested to change at Trowbridge / Chippenham for taxi replacement.
Customers at Melksham are requested to wait for Taxis, which will convey them to Westbury (via Trowbridge) and Chippenham for onward rail travel.
Customers for all other stations are requested to circulate via Bath Spa and wait for the next available service.
For more detailed information please contact a member of station staff or make use of the Customer Help Point systems available.

Ouch ... on a Friday that train's full and standing ... next train off Swindon due at 17:36 ...

Commuters travelling on trains have not had the best start to their Bank Holiday.

Travellers are facing cancellations and delays as they travel between Swindon and Bath Spa following a signalling fault between Swindon and Bath Spa.

Some commuters have said Great Western Rail has called them taxis to replace their cancelled trains.

Wasn't too great between Paddington and Reading either - sadly no taxis called for us though!  Sad

It's my job to be the critical friend ... and this critical friend suggests that cancelling three wound trips on the TransWilts and shoving it to the bottom of the pile with an 8 hour gap between services isn't going to exactly help passenger growth - it will do damage far beyond just today to GWR (Great Western Railway)'s reputation.

May have been better to take out another service where there's another train along within 60 minutes.    Cancel one train on a frequent service and it's not too much hassle ... cancel three successive trains that only run every 2 hours anyway ...

Several long distance Paddington - Devon/Cornwall and regional services in the area disrupted (ie started from Taunton/Exeter rather than Paddington) for the same reason - shortage of Guards - are they all at the beach or is it just poor planning?

We appear to have the shortage of guards conversation every Sunday on a bank holiday weekend.

Seems to be a lot worse than usual today looking at all the cancellations & alterations. Broken down trains not helping either.

Looks to be affecting XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) also with the 1229 Penzance to Manchester running ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) to Bristol.

20 cancellations & 23 alterations on the board currently - as for this one, I reckon the advice offered is a little optimistic...........

22:57 Fareham to Westbury due 00:31 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Further Information
Affected passengers to utilise next available services where possible.
