Keeping the Avon name but referring to the river, how about:

Avon River, Severn Estuary and Somerset Constabulary.

I'm sure an easy to remember acronym is there...

Perhaps rename the police force the, "Bristol, Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire Constabulary."

Atrebatia Constabulary?

Just leave it as Avon, I'm picturing the Police smashing a door down shouting "Avon calling"!

Could also be CUBA (Counties that Used to Be Avon) (Counties that Used to Be Avon). "Avon calling!" might Clash with CUBA; goes better with Nicaragua and the Sandanistas!

Serious answer: leave it as Avon & Somerset. It's descriptive, it's known, it's not too long or too silly or too focused on one place.

Not quite sure why Wiltshire Police were issuing statements.

Roads policing comes under the Tri Force Operations Unit which is a collaboration between Wiltshire, Avon & Somerset and Gloucestershire forces, so the original statement could well have come from the Wiltshire press office.

Evenin' all.

So they're Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon, Gloucestershire: the SWAG Force!

I assume the standard greeting from the Tri Force operatives is 'Ello, 'Ello,'Ello, what 'ave we 'ere?"

A debate to be had about public bodies persisting with 'Avon' in their names. Perhaps rename the police force the, "Bristol, Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire Constabulary."

That wouldn't work, either: North Somerset Council would probably opt out (again).  Roll Eyes

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
