I was surprised when we were overtaken on the left in the tunnel leaving Guildford by a SWR» (South Western Railway - about) service to Portsmouth Harbour. The GWR (Great Western Railway) train left platform 6, the SWR train left platform 4 a minute or so later.

Has the Up line always been bi-directional there? After the SWR service had passed (and delayed the GWR Redhill train I was on), our unit crossed the Down line and then proceeded towards Shalford as normal.

The sectional appendix shows it in situ in 2014, so certainly since then

It was already there in the Trackmaps book dating itself to September 2002.
