Hopefully they will have solved the 385 windscreen problem.

Heading up to Scotland next week. Haven't been to Alloa for about 30 years but tempting just to see how much its changed and maybe try out the new line (well new to me). Never quite saw Alloa as a tourist destination but willing to be surprised Smiley

I read that the ORR» (Office of Rail and Road formerly Office of Rail Regulation - about) has signed off the Polmont - Greenhill Junction wiring along with that on the Cumbernauld route.

Dunblane, Alloa and Perth? next.

I read that the ORR» (Office of Rail and Road formerly Office of Rail Regulation - about) has signed off the Polmont - Greenhill Junction wiring along with that on the Cumbernauld route.

Dunblane, Alloa and Perth? next.

via Shotts is probably next to turn on, and via Maryhill would be logical pretty soon. Your via Stirling lowland services also good candidates. I'm not so 'up' on Scots electrification - I think only the first of these is underway / planned, or is there a logical rolling program?

Logical, that I wouldn't like to say, but there is project SC008 "Rolling Programme of Electrification (Scotland)". That includes the latest new bit through Grahamston to Alloa and Dunblane, plus Shotts. What comes after is in another box labelled "CP6 (Control Period 6 - The five year period between 2019 and 2024)".

NR» (Network Rail - home page)'s announcement explains more of the linkages.

First section of Stirling-Dunblane-Alloa electrification delivered

Network Rail engineers have completed the first phase in the project to electrify the railway lines linking Stirling, Dunblane and Alloa to the main Glasgow-Edinburgh route.

The newest section of electrified railway on the Scottish network has been approved for passenger use following completion of testing and line proving over the weekend.

The first section of the Stirling-Dunblane-Alloa (SDA) electrification project completed covers 26 single track kilometres between Greenhill, Larbert and Polmont junctions and includes Falkirk Grahamston and Camelon stations.

As well as providing a diversionary route for electric trains using the main Edinburgh – Glasgow via Falkirk High route an electrified route between Glasgow Queen Street and Falkirk Grahamston via Cumbernauld, the completion of the line also delivers additional benefits with the future proofing of the Grangemouth branch section for freight.

Work on the fifth electrified route between Scotland’s largest cities has been celebrated after being completed on time and on budget.

Not only will it mean a reduction in noise and better air quality for those who live and work near the railway, the upgraded line will allow for the introduction of modern, electric trains from May and more seats on services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.

Funded by the Scottish Government, the investment was made to add resilience and capacity into the network to cater for projected growth in passenger numbers from towns such as Livingston and West Calder into Edinburgh in the east and from Cleland and Shotts into Glasgow in the west.

More than one million hours has been spent on improving the vital link with 1,400 masts erected to carry the 223 kilometres of overhead wires needed to electrify the line. Major modifications have also been carried out at 17 bridges – including the removal of some and demolition-reconstruction of others.

The project also upgraded or extended platforms at nine stations, delivered step free access at West Calder and completely redeveloped two stations; Breich and Livingston South.
