Well, this was news to me. I realise that XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) are still negotiating with the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) and it *might* get called off/suspended, but has anyone heard about it yet?

Unfortunately, the RMT union has called a possible strike for Sunday 19 November that could significantly affect CrossCountry train services.

We are still engaged with the union in talks, so remain hopeful that the matter can be resolved without the need for a strike. As soon as the outcome of these talks is known we will inform our customers, hopefully by lunchtime on Thursday, of any changes to our services.

If the strike were to go ahead, we would only be able to operate a reduced service between 09:00 and 19:00, but using some longer trains. Some services would finish earlier than normal and some stations will have no CrossCountry services, although alternative travel arrangements are being prepared. Even so, with fewer trains available we expect all our services, and any replacement bus services, to be very busy.

If you travel and your service is delayed by 30 minutes or more, you will be eligible for Delay Repay compensation. You can make your claim using our online form or by collecting a form from any staffed station.

Our priority will be to keep you informed, updated and on the move, so please check this page again for up to date information before you travel. You can find travel options here and answers to some general questions, such as refunds and alternative routes here. You may also find helpful information through on our Twitter and Facebook pages, or by contacting our Customer Relations team on 03447 369123 (please choose option 3).

So if it goes ahead, many areas of the UK (United Kingdom) won't have any service at all.

Anyone know what the argument is about?

The strike went ahead.

I came back from Plymouth this afternoon on the 1510 Plymouth - Paddington.............I'd been reading all the dire warnings about the Crosscountry strike causing chaos etc as there were no services West of Exeter and no bustitution but it really didn't seem to make a lot of difference - even though there was ticket acceptance in place with GWR (Great Western Railway).

Sure, the train was hideously overcrowded (Sunday afternoon services from the Westcountry towards London always are), there was no catering at all on board ("staff shortage"), and the train was short formed (only 7 carriages), but the lack of Crosscountry services didn't seem to make it any worse than it always is.

Chiltern journeycheck seems to indicate that they've been running extra services between Banbury & Oxford. Certainly this evening, presumably to cover XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) after their services finished around 7pm, but they may have been runnng all day?

Slightly off-topic, but that is genuinely the worst railway map I've ever seen.

All the angles are aligned to 45 degrees... except for Birmingham to Peterborough. It's a schematic, so no attempt at geographical accuracy, yet there are still random features (e.g. the kink in Crewe-Manchester) that have no other rationale. The labelling is a mess: fonts and weights are subtly different (Chesterfield and Sheffield are wholly different fonts, for example), placement is inconsistent (why is Ely on the left hand of the line, but Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted on the right?), and let's not even look at the 'Tamworth' label. And why bother differentiating between the Solihull and Coventry lines if the former trains, which wouldn't stop at Solihull anyway, aren't running?

I notice from that RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) release that more Sundays are going to be strike days - this Sunday, then then  4 Sundays from the 10th December. Those wanting long distance on 24th & 31st are in for a big surprise.

Typical cynical opportunism from Rail Unions, shows the utter contempt they have for those who pay their members wages......plenty of time for Crosscountry to arrange bustitution.......but on Christmas Eve/NY Eve it's bound to be expensive and one is bound to ask.........Ooooooooos gunna pay for it? ☺

So there's a break in pattern to have a normal Sunday on 3rd December, but then take in the Saturday of the timetable change.

I'm starting to think that, as well as a "like" button, we should have an "Oooooos gunna pay for it?" button.

But that would probably require some custom PHP development and oooooos gunna... ok, you're there before me.

There is strike action on Virgin Trains West Coast on 15th & 22nd December.

I do not have further details, it was mentioned in the middle of a promotional email they sent me.

Edit: I think the intention was the promotion of the cheap fares rather than the industrial action!

Well, Paignton does have a headshunt of sorts.

It appears Aberdeen has a single track headshunt too. Into the North Sea.
