A person has died after being hit by a train in South Gloucestershire.

The incident happened shortly before 2pm on Monday, November 20, between Yate and Cam and Dursley.

British Transport Police and ambulance crews have been called to the scene.

A BTP^▸ spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a railway bridge close to the line at Kitts Green Farm in Gloucestershire following reports of a person being struck by a train.

CrossCountry and GWR^▸ services have been suspended between Bristol Parkway and Cheltenham Spa while emergency services deal with the incident.

The person who was struck by a train this afternoon on the railway line between Bristol and Gloucester has been identified as a man in his 40s.

His next of kin have been informed, BTP confirm.

Indeed, ChrisB.

I understand that there were particular circumstances in the sad fatality at Yate which caused more disruption to train services than could otherwise be expected.

All incidences of a person hit by a train are a tragedy. Affecting many more than the individual who has been injured or died.

This particular incident, from what I've heard, was worse (if that's the right word) than most. The train driver was injured.

My thoughts, as always, are with all involved. In particular with the train driver.

Yes, the driver of the train involved in this particular incident has sustained considerable physical injuries himself.

Absolutely, thoughts with the driver as well as their family and everyone else involved in the incident, one of the worst I’ve heard of. I hope the driver makes a swift recovery and is able to return to driving.

A mention should go to the passengers who were, by all accounts, patient and very understanding of the situation despite behind held on the train for something like 4 hours. Undoubtably made a difficult situation that little bit easier.

I heard of this when I was changing trains at Bristol Parkway having just come off a Class 800 from Newport. When I got to BPW^» they had just taken off a load of passengers from a Gloucester-bound service on Platform 4 and said that they were going to tow the damaged train through Platform 4 as that was the only way they could take it. Thoughts to the driver of the train involved as well as the family of the deceased.

I can't help wondering how much damage was done to the train, and how so, if the driver was physically injured but I realise that the damage to the train is not important here.
