I'm looking for a reduced cancellation rate from the awful results last month ... logging my data here to keep track.

1st January 2018

Quote
11:47 Westbury to Swindon due 12:34
11:47 Westbury to Swindon due 12:34 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

12:47 Swindon to Frome due 13:41
12:47 Swindon to Frome due 13:41 will be started from Westbury.
It will no longer call at Swindon, Chippenham, Melksham and Trowbridge.
This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

I'm going to treat today as a practise run ... as I have been told that things should get really very much better from return to general work on 2nd January ... here's hoping ...

P.S. Whilst any cancellation is regrettable, the cancellation of the 11:47 / 12:47 round trip is perhaps the least regretted one all day - at a quiet time of day, and followed by another service around 40 minutes later.

I only logged one round trip this morning (the peak busy one, of course) and the evening train which is part of a different diagram - 2M04, 2M05 and 2M18.    I am very much aware that my logging is likely to leak like a sieve and miss short formations, short runs and occasionally cancellations - grateful for other confirmed holes / gaps being reported.

So that's now just one round trip down by one carriage.

At least if we're playing with two balls carriages and one gets dropped, we can go on playing with one ball carriage

I think the 19:32 was a false alarm.  There was a set swap sent out mid afternoon to specifically avoid a short-formed train.  150261 should have done the honours.

Hmmm ... hope it steps up during the day ... we have a national rep from a central body visiting in the afternoon.

Yesterday's 15:18 from Swindon loaded 50 into Melksham; -15 +8 -> 58/23.  2 car, but no yet got the significant education traffic back from the Christmas holiday.

We were alerted to the chance of 2 car not being available all the time in the first week, and 2 to 1 car drop far more acceptable than 1 to 0.  Still good to log, thank you.

5th January 2017

As predicted

The 07:33 Westbury to Swindon is a very heavily loaded train which needs to be two carriages consistently for us to continue to grow.    Only slightly behind the 17:36 from Swindon in being 2 cars rather than 1 this year (and it's behind because there's an 07:04 off Westbury which spreads the morning peak a little).

The 08:49, frankly, will cope at 1 carriage at the moment.   It's one of our poor performers.

Code:
Due Station
08:49 Swindon
09:06 Chippenham
09:15 Melksham
09:33 Trowbridge
09:42 Westbury

For Newbury electrification works weeks (March 12, April 23, June 4, and also later in year) this train is rescheduled:

Quote
08:49   Swindon to Westbury    Runs earlier at 08:28 arriving earlier into Westbury at 09:14
from https://www.gwr.com/travel-updates/planned-engineering/newbury2018
which I take to mean something like:

Code:
Due Station
08:28 Swindon
08:46 Chippenham
08:57 Melksham
09:06 Trowbridge
09:12 Westbury

I am told that timing would really help people who work in Trowbridge - one major employer at least there works flexitime  with core hours (when people must be in) from 09:30.

New connections at Westbury would lead to a much earlier arrival into Salisbury, and the 12:09 Weymouth arrival would become 11:00 - saleable as a day trip through the summer, which it hasn't been (except on engineering-free Sundays!)

Connectional arrivals at Bath (from Melksham) would step forward to 09:34 (from 10:06) and at Bristol Temple Mead to 09:51 (from 10:28).

Afraid it has now gone from two coaches to no coaches.

07:33 Westbury to Swindon due 08:19 will be cancelled.
This is due to a broken down train.
